Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
I have managed to get good flights (times and cost) to Salzburg late Jan.
I know Innsbruck is better but is it out of the question to get to Ischgl?
Any info?
Many Thanks

joskin, it's not out of the question, but it's quite a long way. This is a useful site.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you go to Salzburg on the same site, there's a list of all the resorts in the area, and the distance from the airport. Saalbach/Hinterglemm is less than 100k away and is a great place to ski and stay.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

joskin, I would guess that it is about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive. You can do Salzburg-Innsbruck in about 1 3/4 hours, if that helps.
You would pass a lot of resorts on the way though - it depends on what you are looking for really.

Much as I love Ischgl if i was flying into Salzburg I'd go for Saalbach ... having said that I'm flying to Salzburg in late Jan as well and couldn't get in to Saalbach for the weekend so have opted for Mayrhofen which is not particuarly convenient but is only half as far as Ischgl.

Makes sense to switch resort although Saalbach-Hinterglemm looks a bit low, I might just book the flights and pray…

From the look of RachelQ's website, Salzburg to Ischgl could be a long & expensive option!

Bad Hofgastein is a good option from Salzburg. Quite a big resort with a pretty village and not long on the train from Salzburg. If the snow is particularly bad you can get the ski bus up to Sportgastein, but usually you can ski right down to the village.
The only downside is that Salzburg Airport and Salzburg train station are a few miles apart by taxi.
