Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

up date 15th feb 2007.

i only had an hour to ride (or so i thought!) I was there at the lifts at 8.30 waiting! They opend the lifts for me at 8.57 (a whole 3 mins early Very Happy ) to a chorus of joyeus anniversair Very Happy
I then managed to get some beautiful off piste lines and some seriously lovely on piste fresh pow lines.

the piste this morning was amazing, 10/10! The off piste was very very tempting, but after my 2 chutes the other day i thought i'd better play it fairly safe! The Grand serre was lovely as was just to the skiers left of the boarder cross. Trees from prorel were already tracked but still found a freshie there anyway!

It is very very busy, and today was very very hot, lots had melted when i came down.

Then i did my transfer to turin and managed to make it back up the mountain for 2 with the intention of riding! Then someone bought me a vin chaud and well.....lets just say that 4 of them later i wasn't riding anywhere! Lift down and then a sauna and jacuzi to finish.

lovely!

Its supposed to be really warm again tomorrow and sat then snow again sun. But at the mo conditions are just beautifll

snowangel., that's not really a very nice thing to say about me, is it? This forum is about a bit of fun and general banter and if you've taken offence at something I've said, or the way I've said it, then sorry. The fact you didn't reply to my PM has not helped, though.

snowangel. Hi - Sorry to hijack the thread but remember us at Plein Sud. My wife Margaret had to have the full oesophagectomy (make a new gullet from your stomach) to remove the stricture in the gullet and is doing well after an 11.5 hours operation last Wednesday.

Sounds as though the snow is still good in Serre Chevalier. Friends of ours have just returned from the Ski Welt in Austria from a week skiing on slush!!

DAVID SNELL, that is fab news!

sorry for lack of updates. Its silly season here and i've only been up the mountain to drink and sunbath at the cafe soliel!

today, 24/02/07 it snowed and for about an hour or two the whole valley was white! Then i think it rained down here, i'm not sure because i was up the mountain with my totally wonderful 6 year old Winter with our snowboards! She has improved so much she can now snowboard on her own and we came down the nursery sloap together. I am very very proud of her!
Anyway there was about 6cm ish of fresh very wet and heavy snow at serre rattier, proabalby lots more up top but no idea how much.

Am riding with my son tomorrow so we will go check out the tops of the resort!
,
more snow due tonight/tomorrow and next week end too. Lets just prey that the forecast perciptiation comes as snow and not the forecast rain in the mid week.

Had a great day out today (huge thanks to Chris and Lynn). Coverage prettty good overall; the pistes were in great condition everywhere we went (predominantly Villeneuve sector). Noticed that the tops were a bit barer than I saw last year (e.g. (e.g. ridge walk up to Cucumelle was brown). Off piste mostly very well covered, although again needed to watch out for rocks near the tops - I needed to take my knife to trim swarf the bases of one of our group after a little excursion (along the ridge above and to skiers left of Perdrix) at slightly higher speed than ideal wink . South facing slopes were getting fairly crusty (and Chris kept on telling us how great the powder was yesterday Laughing rolling eyes ), but could find some nice soft snow on north facing slopes. Particularly had great fun coming down the slope directly under the Clot Gauthier chairlift - the top pitch was wonderful before testing ourselves in the crusty stuff lower down (in full view of the chairlift of course wink .

update 1st march 2007

it rained a lot in the valley yesterday morning, then cleared and was a glorious day. The luc alphond is still standing despite the rain. it has drizzled and snowed in the valley today. The piste this morning was horrid, the light was flat and the corderoy icy. Then it started chucking it down and was much much improved. This is supposed to carry on all night so tomorrow should be freshies.

James( Sandy77uk) its due to snow mon, tues, weds, hope your ready for thick pow and trees!, Very Happy

There was about 30cm of fresh last night over the whole area - although fairly dense so not quite the fluffy stuff we had in LG the beginning of the week. Lots and lots of of snow around, with spontaneous snowballing on the south facing slopes (of e.g. the Crete de Balme) keeping you alert to the possibility of slides. Nothing too serious triggered (other than those deliberately blasted). Most slopes had freshies available until early afternoon but were fairly heavily tracked (and littered with the bodies of the overadventurous - including ourselves Embarassed) by the end of the day. Didn't try anything off piste below about 1900m, but was told by those who did that it was pretty heavy down there. Best plan is still to stay highish. Lift queues were not too bad in the morning, but built up to be about 5-10mins on most that led anywhere interesting in the afternoon. Home run to the Club Med was getting a bit slushy, but nothing too unpleasant.

it was a good day.
i even had to rescue a small skier child! i hope his irresponsible dad has a good view of snowboarders now (assuming it wasn't the best before hand!)

first lifts were awesome as usual!

not entirely impressed with the weather reports for tomorrow, but at least there is considerable snow due for next week to which will undo the damage done by the rain we had last night and due tonight/tomorrow.

update 9th march 2007

another beautifull sunny day in serre che. We started early (as usual) but today we started in Monetier and we did Tabuc. We started at the top and took the off piste through the trees to tabuc. WE got freshies in some very nice soft snow, then we got freshies in some not so nice crispy on top snow. Then we got tot he steep bit at tabuc and no prizes for guessing it was mogoly (how do you spell that!) then at the bottom it was icy and moguls! Then it was just pure ice. But it was oh so worth it. It so busy in resort and there was no one down tabuc except me and my buddy, it was hard work cos of the ice but oh so lovely and quiet and we manage to ride all the way to the end of it!

then we hit the cucamel and hiked halfway up, didn't bother with the rest as there was already quite a few people hiking it, so we set off earlyer than then getting freshies and traveersing accross, it was lovely. Snow was a bit crusty the lower you got but it was so peacefull and i'd do it again right now, except i got to cook for 19 for tonight!

anyway i was also very impressed with the few bits of piste i rode today, they were still in very good nick but they were slushy by the time we got there which i think was bout 11ish.

still having fun! snowHead
