its nice to see as i'm in Les Carroz at xmas but looking at the short term forecast you have to wonder if its going to stick around for more than a few days below 2000m... Guess its early days though.

PhillipStanton, thats just next to where Intrawest are going to be buliding their next Alpine development. I'm a fan of Flaine and somehow seeing French and British squaddies skinning up the slopes you ski down, and then digging snow holes within sight of a restaurant just complements the blockhouse architechture of the main resort. It does have the Hameau which this picture is of, but I would rather go to Les C, Morrilon or Samoens than stay away from the lift hub in Flaine itself.

snowangel.,
I agree. Meteo France seem to know what's going on while all the others seem to use the same charting model. Meteo France apparently have a couple of supercomputers running models, doubt this is true of the rest of them.

NorthWestFace, the supercomputers aren't really the issue, more the human input. Meteo France is likely to be the organisation with most local knowledge who can apply the model output but modify it based on their experience. The others are just churning out the raw data.

Flaine is open with (115 cm at 2500 M and 19 cm at 1600M) : the cable car (DMC), the Aup de Véran gondola, the Platé, Perdrix, Diamant Noir and Pré chairlifts, Petit Balacha, Bissac ski lifts and telebenne.

stevo_the_saddler, No, been to La Ros 4 times and Plagne. First time at a private chalet not a TO. Stuck to half term cos of 13 yr old now, but have no idea about the area , 21 of us going though so will be fine I'm sure.

Which chalet? Samoens is a lovely village - though I am very biased! The ski area is really well linked and you can be up in the flaine bowl with only a couple of chairs. Don't panic if you arrive to little snow in the village. The village is only at 750m - but once you get up to the plateau on the gondola you will be rewarded with plenty (he says - hopefully!). Top tip for February - get across the plateau and up the first chair BEFORE 10:00 when the ski-schools set off! Other than that queues will be minimal compared with most of the more "well known" places. If you want any other tips - feel free to PM me.

Thank you Stevo, I think the chalet's at about 1200 so outside the village - called Ski Massif at Les Pellys, Rue de Saix? Apparently we don't have to use the Express gondola, so that should make it easier. Don't use all my snow up!
