Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Booked Saalbach - Advice needed

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello

I just booked a holiday for a group of 8, we really wanted to go to Saalbach after reading good reports on this website. However I can't see any information or reviews about the hotel we're staying in, which is worrying me a little. The hotel is called Hotel Austria, after painful searches on google and getting every hotel in Austria coming up Happy I found this link http://www.hotelaustria.at/. Looks a little dated!

Few questions:-

Can anyone tell me any info of this hotel? Does anyone recognise it?
I know its on the outskirts of Saalbach so ski bus is a must, do you think this will be problem getting in and out for a little Apres?
Has Saalbach got a pretty good snow record for January?
Does anyone have any do's or don't?

Thanks to everyone who can help! snowHead

Hi Wonderwoman. Hotel Austria is outside Saalbach and lies potentially slightly closer to Hinterglemm than Saalbach, but the whole resort is linked so you ski both areas and I believe you can ski back to the hotel, dont quote me on that. It is on the main road and the ski bus stops outside. These run very regularly througout the day. I have never been inside the hotel so cant tell you what it is like unfortunately. If you miss the ski bus then a taxi back to your hotel should only be around for 8 people should be about €3 per person. Saalbach has a great record for snow in Jan so dont worry about that. Do'S and Dont'S, none really, just have a great time. Hope this helps.

We going on the 13th Jan, 59 days - can't wait (not that I'm counting). We've always been spoilt for location, right on slopes usually will be abit different having to wait for bus.

wonderwoman, I have been to Saalbach many times, and usually in January.
Your hotel is located between the two villages, a bit far to walk to the lifts, so ski bus is a must.

I have no information on this hotel, but I stayed in some excellent hotels and pensions in Austria whose website looked even worse that this one.

Absolutely no problem with getting in and out for Apres, taxi service is good, reliable and not too expensive as far as I remember.

Snow in January? Hmm, two years ago it was snowing for a week. Did not take my sunglassess out of my bag...
Earlier we had a week there in January when we had a shortage of show, but the snowguns made enough snow on the slopes.
