I want to try out my new skis on the dry slope but am wondering if i need to rewax afterwards or do anything to them to get em ready for snow.
maybe a dumb question but if you dont ask you dont learn......

scottp, Firstly re prepping new skis in general: New skis arrive at the store with plenty of dust/emulsifiers in the pores and microscopic hairs are left on the base from the original grind. The factory wax is also for protection rather than performance & may last a run or two or far longer. It's best to first perform a hotscrape clean with a warm low melting point wax & then do say 5 wax/cool/scape/brush/fiberpad cycles with the same wax to really load up the base for maximum protection & performance. This type of wax has great penetration in a new base. Even better are the specific waxes just for this purpose like Dominator Zoom Renew. Top World Cup tuners may do 50 waxes & scrape cycles on their race skis before they’re skied on so don’t think you’re being anal by doing it 5 times! Leave the edges as factory supplied to start with.
Now re prepping for plastic: Are your new toys going to be used as a 'plastic only' ski? If not & they're for snow then I personally wouldn't ski them on plastic at all due to the high levels of wear that plastic causes to the base & edges, especially if the dryslope doesn't have a spinkler system. If they're going to be a plastic slope ski or if you just can't resist the temptation to try them out then out then prep them as above but then apply Datawax Polar X dryslope wax which is a very hard wax which helps prevent the bases from overheating. It's a mega hard wax so you need to scrape it off whilst it's still soft (ie don't allow to fully cool like conventional waxes) otherwise you'll need a chisel to get it off.
After every session on plastic I'd recommend touching-up your side edges with a diamond file as this removes less material than having to re-file them back after a few sessions. Depending upon your weight, speed, slope condition etc you might also have to wax after every session although you might get away with it for longer, especially if you apply Zardoz Notwax teflon overlay to the bases which aids in protection (& speed  .
BTW, the Xscape/Snowdome artificial snow is also pretty abrasive on bases & I'd recommend the Polar X wax for there if you're planning on being a regualr attender.

scottp, why not take them out for a cosy date in Milton Keynes? Then you'd be able to ride them pretty roughly without needing to worry about it being their first time. Would still need lots of lube after the date though.

Sharkymark, why whatever do you mean? Xscape crystals are more abrasive than snowflakes but not nearly as abrasive as plastic. However they do dry out the bases so a good cold wax like swix ch4, solda extreme hard, dominator bullet or datawax polar x for fluoro will be necessary for repeated visits if the bases aren't to get sore...I mean worn.

However seeing is believing & I offer a superb & inexpensive 70 minute ski tuning DVD which is the best tuning video on the market. It's the easiest way for an aspiring DIY tuner to learn what tools are required, how to use them & see the actual tuning techniques required for sidewall removal, base edge angle, side edge angle, edge polishing, deburring, base repairs, waxing & grinds etc etc.
Or better still, do what a number of snowHeads have done (I've had two here today) & drive up for a lesson.

spyderjon, I would appreciate a copy of your guide and please send details on DVD. Not sure i want to aspire to be a tuner but feel i should know how to wax my skis correctly. I will probably leave edges to people who know what they are doing. However once i get into it i may want to learn more, Where are you located for lessons?
