Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La thuile to Pila

Hi All,

Am going to La Thuile for a week and will have the use of a car. Looking at going to Pila for a day's skiing as it is nearby. Is it easy to park there or is it best to stay down in Aosta and get the gondola up?

Thanks

Take your pick. The telecabin will get you up there quicker, in 15 minutes or so, and it's included in the lift pass. Sit back and enjoy the view of the steelworks. After, you can stroll into Aosta from the telecabin carpark, via the underpass at the railway station. Carpark is free but does get busy on some days. There is parking at the top.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for that. Is the town (Aosta, if i park there) worth a stroll round as my wife is not a keen skier but likes shopping!!! Little Angel

stortfordhal, yes it is. It's large enough to be diverting for just about a day, but also has some great Roman ruins.

Shouldn't take long to get there either, once you're out of the side valley. One word of warning, don't risk speeding on the AS, they tend to radar gun it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I would definitely park in Aosta and take the gondola. When we had a week in Pila a few years ago, we took the gondola down and strolled round one day; had a brilliant lunch in one of the restaurants (asked a taxi driver to take us to a good restaurant and amazingly he did!)

Hi, We took a day trip to Pila from Courmayeur a few years ago, took the gondola up, probably easier than driving up loads of hairpin bends.
The skiing was good we were there in early March and had most slopes to our sleves all day.
Enjoy the trip
