Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Menuires before Christmas?

Hi guys I'm a long time stalker of this website and have finally taken the plunge and joined so go easy on me!

Anyway to the point; what is the snow normally like in the week before Christmas in les Menuires as I am considering going there this year?

Hi Wacky_Jacky, welcome to having taken the plunge! We always go easy on newbies - for their first post anyway Twisted Evil

I would have thought anywhere the week before Christmas is a bit risky, but at least you have the close proximity to Val Thorens if it is really bad.

The average historical snowfall is 29/83 cms lower/upper slopes for the third week of Dec, according to SCGB.

Wacky_Jacky, I think the skiing in Les Menuires is great, and the lifts 2nd to none. Before Xmas is a risk though. Bet there will be some snow though and lifts at Les Menuires get you up to 2800m where ther is bound to be some snow if its a bad year.

I think I'm right in saying that Val Thorens is unlikely to be a help if the snow doesn't fall, since there's minimal glacier ski-ing at Val Thorens.

However Alastair was in VT for both of the last two seasons:
