Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

December

I am just wondering which resorts are most likely to have snow mid December. We would love to go for a week pre christmas (16-23rd) but have no idea where would be best at that time. I appreciate that snow can never be guaranteed so I was looking for some ideas for resorts I can keep an eye on.

Thx Smile

Obergurgl does a "White Week" around that time, I seem to remember it claiming to be the most snow sure resort in Austria - must admit I've been tempted by it snowHead

Higeh ones. 2Alpes and Tignes both have glacier skiing, should be a good bet.

Why not wait until you know where the best snow is, then decide which resort to go for? You'll have no problem finding accommodation pre-Christmas, so perhaps just book flights and car hire then leave choice of destination until much closer?

We have been to both Obergurgl and Saas-Fee at that time of the year. Both are at about 1800m and the pistes go up to about 300m for Obergurgl and 3600m for Saas-Fee.

It's difficult to say which is best. Both are pretty much snow-sure, Saas-Fee has a glacier skiing in any event. Much will depend on the weather - it can be stormy and very cold at that time.

Can't tell you about other places, such as France.

Sparkygirl, LDA definitely. guaranteed skiing, and the whole mountain was open last December. Usually is. Can be not much base though. Reasonably priced as well, and if you can get a Grenoble flight, short transfer. Very Happy Very Happy

We went to Zel-am-see last december 19th for one week. It was aparantly the most snowfall for that time of year for over 10 years.
