Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New surface at Plymouth ski slope

I was driving past Plymouth ski slope and noticed that it had a very new, bright, white surface. What's this then? Is it safe to ski on Puzzled

It'll be Perma-snow, probably, manufactured by the John Nike Group which (I think still) owns the slope. They've been installing this surface at their other slopes. In common with Snowflex it's a carpet-type surface without the Dendix-type grids.

Because it's not a brush-type surface it offers less edge control but enhanced safety ... in my experience.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

David Goldsmith, Couldn't be less safe. I used to ski the Plymouth slope lots when it first opened. I remember on the opening day they had a lady break both wrists at once... ah the panoramic vistas of Marsh Mills roundabout.... Used to be a nice Campanile next to it. Is it still there?

Unfortunately, as permasnow is a continuous surface of nylon loops, it generates far greater heat when skied on than dendix (hence greater friction, damage to bases etc.)and makes skiing on it unenjoyable to ski.

There does not seem to be any way our junior racers can use the surface as there is no way to locate a race course of gates
