Hi All
I know we have spoken about this before but can't find the thread.
Going out for the season and need car insurance for 6 months, anyone know of a company that provides this?
Cheers

Liverpool & Victoria include 180 days European cover - I think this is on their standard policy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks, I could pop back for a day if I need to but would rather not.

Crazy - after much searching, that was the only option we could find.
Where are you going?

I'm going to Val thorens, i have a number of apartments out there.
I am also having trouble finding a better one.

Liverpool Victoria are also the only company that I could find. The policy that I had my first year was really competitive, but after an accident, the premium rocketed Still the only company to cover me for this long though.

Crazy, Try Axa in France. There should be a local branch near to wherever you are based. They have a different policy than in the UK on green card lengths and we now have our car insured year round with them without having to change to French plates (so far). It is a very competative price as well. We found that as you are dealing directly with the particular branch they are much more willing to be accommodating to your actual needs than when you get through to a call centre in England!

Superb idea katski.
I find it particularly annoying that it's only British policies that don't let you move freely around Europe.

Thanks Katski
It would be nice to get it organised before going out, where is your dealer located and do you have number (english speaking would be nice)?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

PhillipStanton, Quite agree, I used Eagle Star last year though and despite a small additional charge ( ) for the green card extension they were still the cheapest, I think they are now part of the Zurich group so Google Zurich, two claims made, a girl working for us as a nanny dinged the car and the local ski bus reveresed into us at the supermarket, both claims were dealt with really well. No complaints

I should also add that I shopped very hard as we took two cars and not many insurers would actually do the green card for such a long time which was tedious

You know it makes sense.

Crazy, Ours is based in Bourg D'Oisans but they do tend to stick to their areas. I think if you go to the main French Axa website then there is a search facility that will tell you your nearest branch and give you the numbers.

He specialises in Brits who have second homes in France.

I'm looking for the same thing.
I found L&V but they would not do a sample quote as I didn't know the exact modlel I wanted insuring - tricky as I've not bought it yet.
You can also try CIS insurance - 08475 464646 - They seem to have unlimited euro cover as standard. I've had assorted insurance with them for years and are a good outfit. Not sure if they are the chapest but I've not had problems with regard to claims in the past.
What did you go for in the end ?

Then just invent one. The premium isn't going to vary that much between cars of similar type and engine capacity (e.g. Focus 1.6 v. Megane 1.6).

I tried but the girl refused to beleive me ! I called the Zurich guys yesterday afternoon and that was worse. They want a remarkable amont of detail about the car and specifically wanted to know if it was still in the same specification as it left the factory. The inference here is that if the tyres are not the same spec/make as the original fit then they could refuse a payout . . . She did start to backtrack on this but it makes you wonder.

I used to have insurance with L&V and they do seem to stress the thing about modifications which really confused me. They will allow you to take out a policy in the first place if there are any modifications (I think this is to avoid boy-racers).
I'm not with them anymore as the premium went up when I got points but it was still pretty competitive compared to most companies.

Just been thru this with a few companies - Liverpool Vic offered 180 days, CIS unlimited, as long as you keep your documents with you.
For my baby tractor diesel Polo, Liv Vic were £495, incl euro breakdown cover. After prompting they offered 10% discount.
The CIS policy was £473 comp but 3rd Party only £363, both incl euro breakdown cover.

The AAs Euro breakdown cover was nearly three hundred quid alone, never mind insurance!

Hi All
Just got a quote from Liv Vic:
Age:34
3 points
Mitsubishi Shogun
Full n/c
Protected Fully comp
With their 'europe road rescue'
For £395
Didn't think that was that bad.
