Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saalbach - accommodation recommendations

Any recommendations for accomodation ? Ideally a reasonably sized hotel, good food, near the town centre (Saalbach) and a good access point to the lift system.

Stayed in Hotel Igonda last January/February, very good, central, near lifts, good food etc......very happy with it, four star half board cost about €900 though for the week which was just flight and accommodation (through Dublin)

Christianna is very nice, 4 *.

Saalbach is very compact so most hotels on the main drag are very close to the litfs IMV

Stayed in the Saalbacher hof - 4*, very central, mid-way between the main lifts, excellent food. I think a week in Jan half-board with flight cost about £650. Would recommend and would stay there again. Good apres ski bar in the basement, very poor hotel bar though! Good spa centre but you may have to walk a long way through the hotel to get to it!

Nickski, Our favourite is the Bauer. Really nice rooms and bathrooms (heated floor) and a nice leisure area. The food was good too and it's equal walking distance to all the lifts. We stayed at the Berger Sport last year and to be honest, we wouldn't return. The rooms were a bit dated and the food was ok but not as good as other 4 star hotels we've stayed in. My sister-in-law has stayed in the Saalbacher hof and also really liked it. Although, she did say that some of the rooms are in an annex up behind the hotel (bit of a walk)but it is all connected internally.

Yes, this can be a bit tiresome, even though it is all connected. We were lucky our rooms were right at the front of the hotel - big double doors onto the balcony - and the bathroom had double doors on the balcony too. I used to soak in the bath and look up at the black run coming down opposite Very Happy . Downside was the traipse to the spa area which is in the back bit (so didn't go very often) & ups and downs to get to our restaurant

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I second Hayley's suggestion. Also the Reiterhof is well located. Did not stop there though, but heard excellent reports.

Nickski,
try the dofschmieder in Hinterglemm. www.wolf-hotels.at good position, 2 min walk to rieterkogl lift, I have actually managed to ski back to the door a couple of times, good apres scene. I'll be there 1st week of Feb.

Thanks all for info. I've currently got enquiries in with Bauer and Saalbacher. Observation: not as geared up to the internet these Austrians. Not compared to US/UK anyway.

cathy, having a soak looking up at that black run sounds a lot better than skiing it! It is a real thigh burner!

Nickski, the Internet situation has actually got much better in the last year or so!

hayley t, after looking at it coming down in the gondola I decided it wasn't for me! But I was able to stand on the balcony and film the OH coming down - and actually managed to pick out the right person! Toofy Grin
