Poster: A snowHead

Hey guys,
Not strictly skiing but softshells are ski domain so this is the best spot to ask!
I have a MH alchemy which is great and I wear it all the time. However I cannot get on with it playing golf. It is too tight and the stretch is not free enough to let me swing comfortably. So I am considering getting a Synchro for 2 reasons, first it is bigger and looser and second it is more waterproof (rather useful since it will be used in the rain!).
Has anyone any alternative suggestions? Note that waterproof is important (the reason the synchro is good for me is that I have read it to be one of the rare examples of a properly waterproof softshell). Also I rather fancy a hood... it will make standing on the range, in the rain, that much more pleasant!
Thanks
Adam

The jackets from www.paramo.co.uk continuously get good reviews from UK walking and outdoor magazines. They are waterproof. I use mine for skiing. There have been some other Snowheads threads mentioning Paramo.

A key factor in golf gear is how noisy the kit is. There is nothing more annoying than trying to line up a putt with your jacket making a rustling sound every time you move. My salopettes would be useless for golf They are pretty annoying when I am just wandering around at breakfast time.
Proquip and Sunderland are your best bets but they do cost a fortune. It is cheaper to get wet and bring a change of clothes with you.

Latchigo,
The Softshells don't russle like Gore-tex, which why the MH Synchro softshell is an excellent choice for golf in this repect. I wouldn't waste my money
on ANY of the specialist golf wet weather kit.... IMV its way behind mountainwear and expensive. Most golfers wearing wet weather golf kit look like drowned rats to me...

Thanks guys,
David Murdoch, not everyone plays golf looking like that!
JT, This is mainly a piece of clothing for practice, on course a hood isnt needed because I can use a brolly! But stood on the practice ground... that is not possible! I agree with your latter coments, golf waterproofs havent struck me as great value.
Latchigo, Dead right about the noice (which is why I dont just want to go for outer shells), but I know for sure that my Alchemy jacket doesnt have the noise (but as I say, is unfortunately a bit tight for golf). The only golf gear I really would consider is the galvin green gear, but it is enormously expensive and cannot be used for everyday wear like a softshell.

If you play golf, softshell is the best option for you. It has everything you need to have fun and hit the best shots.
