Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New ski instruction DVD by Phil Smith & Brian Fearn

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The new ski instruction DVD (or video I think) just plopped through my door. It's by Phil Smith and Brian Fearn of Improve Your Skiing (formerly one half of The Ski Company). From what I've seen so far it's thought-provoking and very entertaining. Phil's teaching style translates to video very well, and there some awesome video footage (and the occasiolnal comic interlude) from Brian. Recommended!

Regards

Rob

PS - although I've been taught by Phil and Brian, I don't have any commerical interest in this DVD other than as a paying customer.

Wow, this is an old thread! I think it's a very good DVD. It doesn't have too much in the way of drills or exercises, and it doesn't have the flashy DVD menus that the Warren Smith DVDs have (which I think is a good point, but YMMV). What the DVD does very well is to explain in simple terms the fundamentals of steering skis, cutting through a lot of the B$ that I've seen on other instruction videos. The DVD mirrors Phil's teaching in this respect.

In addition to the instruction, I enjoy watching the DVD just for the pleasure of watching Phil ski. Although it is by no means an "extreme ski" video, it's great to see some of the filler material of Phil skiing off piste, on the steeps and the crud. There's also the usual injection of humour from Brian, which again is typical of his teaching style!

Apparently they have another DVD which should be due fairly soon, dealing with off-piste, especially powder skiing. I'll be getting that one as soon as it comes out.

rob@rar.org.uk, thanks, just wondered if it might be useful to watch it prior to doing one of his courses

slikedges, yes, it might be useful, if for no other reason than becoming familiar with the terminology that he uses for describing ski technique. What course are you doing?
