Hi I'm organizing a ski holiday for 13th January 07. There is 23 people going so far. any advice for organising. Last year I organised one for Les Deux Alpes through tThomson ski. It was a great holiday and everyone enjoyed it. We stayed in a half board clb hotel half board.
This year we were thinking of Alpe d'Huez. and possibly going self catering rather than half board as we ate out 3-4 nights last year anyway.
This would be flying from Belfast. Would it be best goign through the likes of Thomson or Crystal ski, although I think they are all the one, or a local travel agent. Once it is organsied I don;t want much further bother for myself, as it is a big group and say transfer or something messed up to miss flight so don't want to be doing it all myself in case something went wrong.

MhicEasmuint, If you were happy with Thomson last time, then I think you have answered your own question.
If you are putting 23 holidays a company's way you are certainly entitled to a very generous discount. See what is in the company brochures for block booking. Apollo Travel (and maybe the the Ski Club of Great Britain) also do reasonable discounts on the big tour operators.
I am not sure that many local travel agents add much, as opposed to going direct to the firms themselves.

Try Eurogroup or Ski France for s/c chalets in Alpe d'Huez - up at the altiport, ski in/ski out. Bit of a hike from town, but good restaurant opposite and a couple of places in Les Bergers as well. I think their biggest is a 20-pax, though they have several semi-detached types for 12/14, so you could book two adjacent.

MhicEasmuint, the good thing about a loca agent (if all live locally), is they can all just pop in and pay their balances.

Hadn't thought of organising a transfer coach for the continent, we've usually got transfers through the people providing the accommodation. How do you go about organising it? Sounds like a good idea.

For France, look here: http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/ Put in 'transports touristiques en autocars' and the number of the relevant department, then ring a few and ask for quotes.

johnboy, it's thanks to Daniel, my eldest son, that we're in La Rosiere at all, he worked there as a ski guide in 2000 when he came back from the US, he was a ski and snowboard instructor, liked the resort, got on very well with the villagers and was given the nod when our chalet became available. He's been trading since 2002 and has expnded his operation this season.Frosty the Snowman, it is it's in Le Gollet and has a fortune spent on it.

David@traxvax, Is it next door to S.O.s Quatre Saison?

Hi Guys thanks for all the information, alot of different ideas there,
Looking into prices for both travel agent - crystal ski - still waiting on price and have also priced for do it yourself, looking at katski's apartments. looking around £440. Kind of limited from NI with the cehap flights. Geneva is the main place, but is it not a very long transfer from Geneva to Alpe d'Huez? The Crystal price is for Chambery airport so will be 2 to 2.5 hours transfer.
johnboy, I'm form Co. Antrim Where abouts you from yourself

MhicEasmuint, you might want to have a look at Directski.com for some decent offers out of Belfast. I don't think they offer anything in Alpe d'Huez, but they currently are showing self-catering in La Tania for £251 per person or in Meribel valley for £269 per person (this is including flights & transfers: £134.10 for the Belfast City/Chambery return flight and £135 per person for 4 people in a studio - you can pay a bit extra for a larger apartment).
I think the company is based in Dublin - I used them last year to go to Zell am See in Austria and had no problems at all with them. Their online booking will only accept up to 12 people in a party, so you'll probably need to give them a call. I think they've just bought over Ski McNeill in Belfast.

Try emailing crystal and advise them that you are a group travelling as they have a specialist department for groups and offer better prices and rates, adise where you are from as the have area managers for groups in different areas.
