Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Off-piste guidebooks?

Anyone got any views on best off -piste guide for La Grave-

Cordee, Vamos or other? The skier's lodge website gives a pretty good idea but I like to have some bedtime reading. I have used Vamos in Chamonix and found some of the photos a bit sketchy.

Also anyone found any decent books covering Engelberg, Andermatt etc?

Aren't the Vamos and Cordee ones the same? Beyond those, for La Grave, you're really looking at French ski touring guides. Editions Olizane and Volopress do good ones, although they tend to concentrate on areas well away from the lifts.

I have the Vamos one and it isn't too bad but, like the Chamonix one, the photos take a bit or working out and the translations into English are a bit eccentric!

If you find an English language guide for Engelberg, let me know. The best that I can offer is that the names of some of the runs reflect geographical features marked on the maps - so the Galtiberg and Laub, for example, are quite clearly marked.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Arno - didn't realise they were the same as hadn't found enough detail on t'internet.

I know the layout at Engelberg pretty well but first time I went visibility was sub 10m at times & last time I'd put my knee out so wasn't being very adventurous. Would have thought the Scandis would be on the case by now but I've got better chance of reading German than Swedish.
