We have booked to fly to Geneva 17th -24th December. Any suggestions for best resorts not too far from this airport? Thanks

ruthie, welcome to snowHeads!
I've moved you to 'Resorts', where you might get more of a response... I've skied in Saas Fee and Val Thorens from Geneva - but they are both a couple of hours from the airport and Saas Fee is in Switzerland...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Nearest is probably La Clusaz.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

ruthie, welcome to snowHeads.
What length of transfer time would you consider (and mode of transport)?
Is there anything in particular that you are looking for (other than skiing of course), and what sort of level skiers are you? There is so much choice within an easy distance that you should consider whether you also want:
lots of off-piste,
miles of piste skiing,
motorway blues/reds,
good apres, etc etc.
Once you have determined your resort, I would have thought that accommodation will be easy to find at that time, so you could probably afford to be wait till much nearer the time and see where the snow is going.

ruthie, welcome to snowheads, we have availability for that week, have a look at our ad in snowShops or go to our website www.tracksvacations.com for more details. La Rosiere has a good early season snow record and we have our mini-bus so we can always bus guests to Tignes or Val d'Isere if the snow cover locally isn't good enough.

ruthie, we are bit further from the airport in Serre Chevalier, but it is a pleasant drive through some stunning scenery, and you don't get the traffic jams like the Tarentaise does. If there are up to 4 of you it would be ideal. The apartment is just a short walk from the slopes. Check out our snowShops entry and click through to the website to book. Snowheads get a 5% discount .

At that time of the year i would hire a car and go for Tignes/VDI. Snow cover in these to resorts is as good as it gets for early season and there are loads of good accommodation deals around.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - only found this website and I think its wonderful! I think the problem I will have is getting apartment from a Sunday to Sunday as in France its usual to be Saturday to Saturday. Also the snow this ealy in the season may be a problem. We stayed in Tignes last year over Christmas and it was ok a bit stony in places.
Have sent an enquiry off to David at Tracks in La Rosiere. The apartment in Serre Chevalier wouldn't suit as there are 6 of us but thanks anyway.
