Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Leogang / ski circus

Blush Blush Blush Hello and good evening. Myself and a few friends are looking to come to Saalbach in January 2025. We are looking at staying in Leogang hotel called PURADIES, RAIN. I am just trying to understand if we can ski out of Leogang to get into the ski circus and what kinda of time we would have to head back if we for example at the Reiterkogel 6 man chair. Any help would very much appreciated.

@Jonezzie1, welcome to snowHeads! snowHead

You're staying at one end of the ski area. This might help you envisage what's involved: https://openskimap.org/#11.8/47.40805/12.65003

I've only skied one day in Saalbach/Hinterglemm and I didn't drop over the Leogang side. You can definitely ski over from Leogang and back again. It depends a bit on lift queues and how fast you ski, but I would guess about an hour, maybe a bit longer, for the itinerary you mention. It's a long run down to Saalbach, then 4 or 5 lifts to work along the ridge, then a long run down to Rain. I'm sure there'll be someone along soon who'll be able to give you a more accurate estimate though. snowHead

When I've been in areas where you can end up getting stuck in the wrong valley, I tend to get back to a spot where I can ski down to the hotel and play the last hour or so in that sector, rather than cutting it fine.

Looks like a nice hotel! Cool

Leogang is part of the Ski Circus, so you're already in it! There is an easy skiing link over to Saalbach and then on to Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn.

From the top of the Reiterkogel lift I'd say a reasonably fast skier could get down into Saalbach and up to the top of Asitz in about an hour. Lift queues should not be an issue in January. To be on the safe side, you should be looking to be at the top of the Reiterkogel chair no later than 14.30. If you get back over to Leogang in good time, you can always stop for a beer at the top of Asitz (Asitz Brau, Alte Schmiede or the fancy Handelfischeri (aka "Chicken Man") or stop at the Asitz mid-station at the Stocklalm or the Steinadler bar.

@Jonezzie1, I agree with @quinton,’s time estimates.
If it helps, it takes about three hours to ski anti-clockwise right round the Glemm valley, from the summit of the Wildenkarkogel, taking in the Kohlmais, Bernkogel, Reiterkogel, Hochalm, Zwölferkogel, and Schattberg mountains, and returning to the same spot up the Schönleitenbahn. That’s skiing at a moderate pace and not stopping for lunch.
Also I remember once timing myself from the summit of the Kohlmais to the Kleine Asitz area (where the restaurants mentioned by quinton are located), and it took just under 40 minutes, again skiing at a moderate pace.

There is an alternative route back to Leogang should you find yourself at the top of Reiterkogel and running out of time.

You could get back to Leogang via Fieberbrunn by taking the TirolS lift and then skiing down into Fieberbrunn, which is in the same valley as Leogang. From Fieberbrunn you would need to take the bus or a taxi to Leogang.
