Poster: A snowHead

We are urgently in need of some assistance with a French visa for four months so our daughter can attend boarding school in France from January for the winter term. Wondering if anyone could recommend a service to help fast-track the application and an appeal.
We applied through the TLS application process only to find yesterday the application was rejected on the basis of insufficient medical insurance and also insufficient reasons for requesting a visa. We provided details of GHIC and Travel Insurance as well as letters of acceptance from the school. We need some expert help as she needs to start early January and we feel we are running out of time. Thanks

Not sure about services, but I think student visas typically take 10 days. So should be enough time to take out proper private health insurance and reapply. Ask the officer to look at all your stuff at the appointment to make sure it's correct and complete. You could also seek advice from the school.

Travel insurance isn’t sufficient, it needs to be full medical insurance policy.
School-going minor
The type of visa required depends on the duration of your stay in France:
Stay not exceeding 3 months
If you want your minor child (i.e. aged under 18 on the date the visa becomes valid) to stay in France for the purposes of studying for a period not exceeding 90 days :
In a public or private teaching establishment, or
In a language, arts, cooking or sports centre
You must apply for a short-stay visa called an "studies" visa on his/her behalf.
You will be asked to provide the following supporting documentation: details of your child’s enrolment in a teaching establishment or training centre, proof of accommodation, proof of sufficient financial resources, international medical insurance, parental authorisation and the contact details of a guarantor in France.
Stay exceeding 3 months
If you want your minor child (i.e. aged under 18 on the date the visa becomes valid) to stay in France for the purposes of studying for a period exceeding 90 days in a public or private primary, secondary or higher education establishment, you must apply for a long-stay visa called a "school-going minor" visa on his/her behalf.
This category of long-stay visa also concerns minors aged between 16 and 18 wishing to study for a period exceeding 90 days in a language or sports centre.
The long-stay "school-going minor" visa only concerns foreign minors whose parents do not live in France and who wish to stay in France away from their parents in order to study. Therefore, this visa does not concern minors whose parents already live in France.
You must provide supporting documentation about your child’s enrolment in a French school, his/her school reports from the previous year and a certificate about his/her knowledge of the French language, details about his/her accommodation in France, financial resources and insurance, parental authorisation and the contact details of a guarantor in France.

Just to be clear TLS is just a company that processes the application. The staff you talk to at TLS will try to help you with your application to the best of their knowledge but they have no influence over whether your application is accepted or rejected. All discissions are made by the staff at the embassy and so for some reason they have rejected it. As per the post above did you tick all the boxes in terms of school reports and french language ability?

it is exactly the same in France when dealing the the prefecture for French nationals, for example. A lot of things have been subcontracted to private companies who check your documentation before it is submitted to make sure it is right but that isn't always the case. For a number of processes you can no longer deal directly with the French administration.

It's not travel insurance they want. It's full private health insurance. BUPA sort of stuff but for France. Ours is about £200 a month for 1 child. There's several providers that you can easily google.
