Poster: A snowHead

Whenever I may need to skin up from a lift to access a run I have been hiring skis and boots as my skis don't have pin bindings. Now that I have taken the plunge and am getting new boots, I am thinking about replacing the Marker bindings on my Faction 2.0 skis with some switch bindings. I love the skis and would like to carry on using them if possible.
Is this a good idea, or soemthing to be avoided at all costs?

Good idea.. cheaper than new skis. Any competant shop will be able to do this. Only possible issue is that the previous holes (for the Marker bindings) may preclude a mount bang on boot center, but this is not something you'll notice when skiing. Shifts (IMV) are a great way to make a ski tourable without loosing the full function toepiece of an alpine binding.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@dustytess, Have a think about the Marker Duke PT bindings.
With the alpine toe piece removed and in your bag they weigh about the same as Shifts uphill, tour like the Shifts, release as standard bindings, and (probably of most interest to you) may fit the same mounting pattern as your existing Marker bindings.
Check with Jon Coster at the Piste Office.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I use Marker EPF bindings on my free ride skis. They take a standard alpine boot but allow heel release for skinning.
Also worth considering are Quiver Killers

How old are the skis?
It cost a few bob to change them over. Worth it if they still have plenty of life left in them.
