Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bormio and Livigno from Milan

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi we are planning a 6-day snow trip in family (intermediate to advanced) from Milan. We want to Ski no bormio and Livigno this time (last season we went to Ortisei and Sella Ronda).
Where is better to stay, Bormio ir Livigno? and where is better to Ski? Is it possible to drive some days from one to the other? Are there buses? Thank you

Livigno. Nice ski area though split across 2 sides of the valley. Nice village feel though very linear (1km long but mainly one street).

Bormio. Never skied there but nice town. Bigger than Livigno.

Traveling between the 2 is ok as the road is kept open but involves 2 small passes. I think you'd need a car rather than rely on busses. Neither ski areas are even close to the scale of Selle Ronda.

This was a very simlar thread recently, although it got diverted about travel there...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Never been to either. There's something fresh on Bormio here though, and they got there on the train, so there's that:

If you're on a transfer, then be aware Livigno is around 4 hours from Milan, and you actually drive through Bormio en route, which is about 3-1/2 hours.

When we visited a few years ago, Livigno had this unusual tax-free status that made it a relatively cheap(er) destination. Not sure if this still applies.

As for skiing, Livigno was a great place for our children to learn and for our mixed-ability group of learners and intermediates, but I'm not sure it would work so well for an intermediate/advanced group.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Last I checked, Livigno run their own direct coaches/buses that do transports to & from Milan. It was €120 return trip if I’m remembering correctly, which imo is worth it…
