@Bob, I've edited the title to show the current season as I'm pretty sure we get a thread like this every year or two

Vallon Gondola will be a big improvement in the Le Fornet/Pissailas sector in Val D ‘Isere but it might be a bit late for the start of the season.
The new Marais Gondola in Tignes will also spread people out quicker on the way up from Brev and Boisses.

Thanks for posting that, it’s informative. It does however sound to me more like a triumph of marketing than anything particularly ground breaking with the possible exception of the Shilthorn cable car. Six of the 8 are just replacement 10 person gondolas by Poma, Dopplemayer and Leitner. This is the industry standard these days and the underlying reason is usually more to do with future proofing ski resorts for climate change by providing year round all ability access, than strictly needing an increase in skier capacity. The environmental criteria sounds greenwash to me! The 3S at L2A is impressive in terms of its extreme length and reduction in journey time but it’s hardly a first.
Shame to see the double Col Poma going at the Fornet, but I imagine they are rarely used these days?

@Peter S, It was used extensively because the Vallon gondola was so slow and unreliable with big queues.
Used the up and over and down to it or Laisinant, Pyramides and down to it to access Pissailas. Now it will be the gondola or nowt!

@Peter S, yeah to call them "INSANE" is err, insane.
I thought the one that you call on demand and goes different routes was interesting.

The piste map on www.valdisere.ski still showing the Col Poma. Out of date map? Or yet to be decommissioned?

You know it makes sense.

That was my thought as well. I’ll be happy to see the new TransArc gondola in Les Arcs this season (the first lift featured in that video). It will be a faster and much more comfortable ride than the lift it replaces, hopefully with shorter queues in peak times. But it’s just a modern replacement of an old lift, nothing special.

@PeakyB, That’s a bit of a known unknown. The new Gondola was never planned to open by at the start of the season (because the old one had to be dismantled and the new one built in one season) so I suspect it has been left in place for the start of the season and will be retired when the Gondy opens. That would seem like a good insurance against any snags. The current unseasonal weather must have been a boon to the constructors.

@rob@rar, know what you mean about a ‘triumph of marketing’. However I think Paradiski got its once in a generation wow factor lift investment with the Vanoise Express.
I think the TransArc replacement seems a sensible investment. A key lift and the old one certainly seemed to have reached the point where it had become too unreliable. Hopefully will have similar benefits to what the Toviere gondola did when it replaced the old Aeroski up in Tignes?
On a whole ski area basis, I’d like to see the clunky old chairlifts just over the other side of the Vanoise Express get an upgrade.

@PeakyB, yes, the Vanoise Express was/is remarkable in several ways. I’ve not ridden the TransArc for a couple of seasons as it’s a fairly miserable experience, as ski lifts go. The replacement is going to be so much nicer!

Also looking forward to the new TransArc.
Because of the location of the ski school meet point, the TransArc is often the most convenient lift for me at different times of day. It was a pretty miserable experience, though. Especially when you're 5'0 like me, the 'seat' was too high for me to perch!
Only 101 days to go.

Likewise looking forward to seeing the new Transarc in December, and have barely used the old one for a while. However, for me, with apartment in 1950, the game-changer was Carreley. Much happier to traverse across to Carreley for the home run. Appreciate that my priorities are rather different than the typical Transarc user, though.
