Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Front side/all mountain ski that won't break the bank?

Hi all. I've got a couple of trips coming up this season that are likely to be mostly piste based unless we get lucky with the conditions. Currently running an old set of Candide 3s and it turns out I'm not as good a skier as him (shocker). 108mm underfoot and 30m radius isn't really ideal piste kit so I was wondering about branching out from the one ski quiver, but it's not a category I've looked into for years. Basically thinking something up to 90mm waist that actually wants to turn/carve but also a bit playful if I ever decided I was actually going to spend more time in the park than 2 runs through on an entire trip. I found a reasonably good deal on a set of Salomon Stance 84s but struggling to work out from available info whether they're more of an intermediate ski (I'd like to think I'm a bit beyond intermediate at this point). Anyone got any recommendations of where to start? There's so much choice these days, but also trying to avoid breaking the bank at the same time which does limit the options a bit. Thanks

@el nombre, I've just spent a couple of months looking for something very similar. I've ended up with something at the wider end of the scale, J skis masterblaster. I was basically searching skis on Marketplace / Ebay for a few months and anything that was listed that looked vaguely suitable I did a bit of a deep dive to see if I thought they'd be any good. Currently on ebay there's a pair of Faction Prodigy 2.0 that I was half tempted with, but were a few CM longer than I really wanted and that might suit your need - they're weighted towards all mountain skiing but with a 10mm narrower waist than your current CT3.0s and likely a bit more lively and usable on piste. If you're not in a rush and are looking at potentially the second hand market, then setting up a saved search on ebay just for 'skis' and checking regularly to see what gets listed is a good way to find a bargain and to find something that suits without breaking the bank.

A whole lot depends on how big you are but I think lots of people (full sized male) seem to be coming down to 88-95ish as a daily driver with those up to 85 being the more piste biased side of all mountain.

Essentially you need to decide if you want a true carver or a swiss army knife that will handle bumps, packed/chopped out offpiste and light powder as well.

Personally I'm very happy with the White Dot Altum 94 (the delinquent) as my "sensible" ski.

Salomon Stances and QSTs in those sort of width brackets seem to be very competitively priced especially closeout of old stock. I wouldn't worry about outskiing either unless you're a pro.

Mrs NBT and I use the non-Ti version of these, excellent all-round ski. Handles wonderfully on piste and allow you to play off-piste when conditions allow

The Brahmas will ride an intermediate more then any intermediate will ride them. QST's are not great on piste. I've had plenty of days on both. Maybe Fischer Ranger 90's? I've never skied them, but have found them intriguing- they might fit the bill for you.

I’m with @adithorp with a +1 for Blizzard Brahma 88. I aim to ski only on piste these days but occasionally naughty people lead me astray.

For the record, I'm 190cm tall and around 73kg. The brahmas seem tempting, but not found them particularly cheap. Having got stuck in a bit of a rabbit hole or reviews, I've been leaning towards maybe the Faction Dancer 1, but again, not found much in the way of deals, at least for the length I would need.

The reason I haven't really been looking at options wider than 90mm is that it feels like that starts to overlap with my current skis which I was thinking somewhat defeats the purpose a bit. Having said that, something in the low/mid 90s would mean I could fairly confidently leave the Candides at home (unless I knew I would be touring) and still manage to have a pretty good time if I got lucky with the snow conditions.

Selling because my son handed my down his maverick 95ti it’s a really good ski just can’t justify keeping it. They are 6 years old approx 40 days skiing. If interested message me and I will send photos

Brahmas have been replaced by anomaly. I liked the Brahmas the couple of times i tried them edge edge edge turn turn turn, Fischer curvs have a range of sizes, prices and specs and are good value for money for a piste ski. But oh so many to choose from.
