Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grocery delivery in Meribel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Advice please - we've booked a self catered chalet for 2 families in Meribel. I'm dreading grocery shopping! Is it possible to get an online grocery shop delivered? Does anyone have experience of this?
Thanks

Welcome to Snowheads, @Caro4t, snowHead I imagine you can get groceries delivered in Meribel but someone who knows will be along soon. How are you getting there? Even if you are flying, some judicious planning can cut down a lot on the faff in resort.

@Caro4t, I'm pretty sure the main Spar supermarket in Meribel does home delivery but their website's down so I can't check. It's a good supermarket with a big deli and butcher's counter and a lot of British goods but you'll pay a substantial premium if you do a whole week's shopping in there.

The two main supermarkets in Moutiers/Salins - Carrefour and Super U - only do click and collect as far as I know (way too difficult to do home delivery in heavy snow etc., can't blame them). If you're driving, you will drive right past Super U in Salins on the way so you can't miss it. I always go in person so haven't used the collection service personally but I seem to recall people saying you can only create an account/order online if you have a French phone number.

You can get a 30 day French sim card for Free mobile from machines in La Poste outlets and shopping malls if necessary. https://mobile.free.fr/en/voyages-forfait-europe-france

Obviously if you're flying with a transfer, you'll just have to suck up the Meribel Spar's cost! snowHead

Is this a budgetary thing? Are you dreading being presented with unfamiliar food items with labelling in French? Do you have to cope with dietary intolerances within your group? .....

Thanks very much for the advice so far - I do love French supermarkets, and am super-excited about the trip and the French food! We've self-catered before on a ski holiday, but it gets very stressful trying to keep the house stocked up for a hungry and thirsty group of 10. The thing I'm dreading is having to shop every day after skiing then cart it all home on the bus (sometimes with skis too). We're staying outside the resort on a ski bus route, without a car, in Feb.

I'll be in a self-catering chalet at Christmas, with two of my kids and their families. The shopping and cooking will be shared - we have three normally competent "everyday" cooks, one proper posh one who has cooked in expensive private chalets and a very competent and willing clearer-upper and I'm sure nobody will have to do more than their fair share. We are all driving, and some good basics, including some stand-bys and condiments (and a couple of sharp knives.....) plus all we need for a first night meal and breakfast, will be going with us. The additional cost of shopping in-resort is not enormous, if you're sensible, and items such as beers and wines are much cheaper in an expensive resort shop than in a Meribel bar!

Caro4t, your first post states you are two families, but your second post then seems to suggest you alone will be doing all the shopping.
Why? What are all the other guys doing?
(Origen is far too diplomatic)

@Caro4t, we shop regularly on the way to our holidays. Everyone of us has a list (usually compiled by me) and there will be a meal plan, although that can be a flexible one. Someone will do the veg and fruit. Someone else the meat, cheese, milk and eggs, another the coffee, teas, tinned foods and pre-dinner crisps and nuts. The lucky bug will get the beer and wine shop.

Which hamlet/village? The smaller supermarkets in the outlying areas also deliver, such as the Spar in Meribel Village or the various Sherpas in Les Allues etc. The Sherpas look to be well set up for holidaymakers, specifically advertising having it all ready for your arrival so one of them probably covers your location if it's on the bus route: https://www.sherpa.net/supermarche/meribel-1600/en/

Should be sufficient to get you all the basics; breakfast, snacks, booze etc and then you can just go into Meribel if you want some specific deli items or fresh meat.

Note that the site is defaulting to Meribel 1600 at the moment because they're all shut until December.
