Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pila trip, staying in Aosta, from Milan - rental car advice sought

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All

We are heading to Pila at Xmas , driving and staying in Aosta after landing in Milan.

Looking for some pearls, specifically at the mo on rental car firms. When looking on Zest (handy for the free extra driver ) , the cheapest headline rates are from firms I have not heard off - those being "Noleggiare" & "Moventur" & "Sicilybycar" & "Optimorent", none of which I have heard of. Are they any good, are they offshoots of the majors ?

But Noleggiare do seem to change extra for both chains and winters with chains being 1/3 of the winters (Moventur dont have either option went booking via Zest) . I am minded to get at least one option here. In terms of driving, I dont see us driving up to Aosta, but we may want to drive to the odd other resort included on the Aosta valley ski pass. Thoughts?

As always, thanks in advance for any advice.

I've used Sicilybycar on a couple of occasions without any problems.

@T Bar, @richb67, thanks both, was that out of Milan MXP/LIN or some other city?

@ster,
It was out of Venice Maro Polo.
(Last time at least, I know I have used them at least once before that but can't remember, might have been Milan.)

Rome and Bari.

TBH They were so cheap I was a bit dubious, but an Italian friend said they are a well known and reputable option and they were fine. In reality no different to Avis or Hertz, they were cheapest company i was willing to risk.

I've noticed that car hire prices in Italy seem to be higher this year than in recent years.

Not used any of those you mention, so can't comment, sorry! Sad

Thoughts on chains vs winter tyres? Winters will be better if you want to drive up to Cervinia at Xmas. I got away with summers, but I went in mid/late Feb and it didn't snow hardly at all while we were there. Most include chains with summers. You must have winters or chains by law in Aosta Valley Dec-April.

Thoughts on visiting other resorts? Definitely. You'll pretty much ski out Pila in a day. Courmayeur, La Thuile, Cervinia and Champoluc/Monte Rosa are definitely worth visiting if you don't mind the commute. Double check the pass prices. I found the Aosta Valley pass was more than day passes to each resort! Shocked
