Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Helmets for oval heads!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I just read the really helpful “helmets for big heads” post, wondering if anyone can help with similar but for us oval shaped noggins please!

My Giro is 10yrs old and I need a chin guard compatible if possible!

I tried a Rossignol fis one but it’s definitely a round head shape so no good! Which is a shame as was ideal
Otherwise!

Thank you!
I will visit a shop to try but I live in the wilds of Devon so I’ve only got a S&R in the vague vicinity. Thanks!

@P17hae, You could have a look at POC - they do the Obex in a wide fit if you are cranially gifted in that particular axis. Not sure what is available with the chin guard these day, maybe just limited to their specific race models.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@P17hae, Choose a reasonable sized resort (i.e. one big enough to have some shops), and then try on and buy there. Resort shops tend to carry a larger and more varied stock than in the UK, and if you have 3 or 4 shops in the same street, your chances of finding a good fit are increased.

I've got a large noggin (inflated by my ego probably) . . I also hate wearing helmets (late adopter) but have found 2 that are great (based on weight / comfort / visual noggin reduction capabilities) that you might want to try . . .

1 - K2 Route
Pros - Mega lightweight / well ventilated / works well with a thin beanie / decent boa dial / clips keep goggs in place / shape eliminates mushroom bonce effect / cheap these days
Cons - Not as protective as some / cold due to zero vent control (I prefer this though) / low brow so may not work with huge fighter pilot style goggles

2 - Salomon Mtn Lab
Pros - Also v lightweight / well ventilated / thin merino liner / decent boa dial / looks cool (IMO) / shape semi-mitigates mushroom bonce effect
Cons - No ventilation control / goggle clips annoying

+1 to POC Obex Pure, not sure about chin compatibility, but 400gr, feels very lightweight. Currently good price on sportpursuit

Just browsing and I see I have both helmets mentioned by @Belch. I need a very large helmet and I like light weight. I don't use the biggest goggles. I don't use the headlamp/ goggle clips on either; I wear my goggles under the helmet [rationale: I can take the helmet off to cool down fast, but I never take my goggles off "in the field" ].

Yeah I use a liner as this one lets the wind through and is a ice-cream head job even in mildly cold conditions. I ride in very cold conditions a lot, no problems. I use the Boa thing when riding indoors (without any hoodie/ liner).

You see a lot of these in the back country. Same as the Route really, just looks different.

I change them every few years (hence I switched from #2 to #1 a couple of seasons back). Head shape... not sure what mine is, but if there's any doubt I guess you'd need to check that.
