We family of 4 ( 5,9 yo kids) are visiting lech this Dec. We wonder should we stay oberlech or lech. This will be our first time ski experience; will go for half day ski class during those days. We will choose between Haldenhof or petersboden. Any advice? Got little attracted by the outdoor pool in Petersboden.

Oberlech is where I would stay with a beginner family. Not a cheap resort though if that's important.

@TOrys, If you have the budget Oberlech is an optimal location, especially for families. Completely ski in / out (rare in Austria) also car free so ideal for kids playing in the snow especially if they hate skiing. Easy to get back & forth to the main village as the lift runs into the evening. The only issue might be not wanting to go anywhere else next time!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Oberlech is a great spot for kids. So convenient! Step out of the front door of the hotel directly onto piste!
Lech is one of the nicest resorts in the Alps, if you can afford it!
Can't help thinking it would be a little wasted on beginners though.

I better double check if the pool at Petersboden is heated and open during winter.
Haldenhof has exceptional review for the quality, services. It also has family room with an attic area for children. Like the style.
Then only I realise Petersboden at Oberlech price is more or less the same as Haldenhof. There come my dillemma should I be choosing petersboden since most people recommend Oberlech.
Huhu..I also feel like wasted being beginner at Lech. How I wish I could explore those slopes at Lech. Being beginner, my activity area would be limited, I can’t go far. We would need a few more winter to brush up the skill. So I am
Telling myself I have to at least enjoy the food, vibe, sun terrace there.

I'm sure that either would be most enjoyable but Oberlech has the extra magic of being "away from it". Car free with a network of tunnels connecting the hotels.
Some years ago we stayed in the Montana which is just across the piste but we were already experienced skiers

@TOrys, Dont worry about being a beginner. Of course there are smaller, cheaper places you could go to that are suitable for beginners but the primary objective here is to have a holiday, if you (or your kids) fall in love with skiing great but if not you will still be going to a beautiful place for a winter holiday. Anywhere in Lech is likely to be a good choice but Oberlech has the advantage of being in the middle of the ski area and also genuinely car free. This is rare, not many other similar places anywhere in the alps. I suspect many here would be jealous that their first skiing experience wasnt in Oberlech but in some pokey apartment in a bleak French high altitude ski resort! Enjoy it

@TOrys, the pool is definitely open in winter. In fact, Petersboden used to be open in winter only. Until this year.
Haldenhof's position is not super beautiful, facing the road to Zug. Not that it is a super busy road of course, but still....
Staying in Lech proper has the advantage of the easy stroll in/to the village. But with young kids, indeed carfree Oberlech is special. Additional bonus: the toboggan run starts next to Petersboden.

Agree with everyone recommending Oberlech because of the magical experience and location. Also with children you have the toboggan run which darts back to the base of the cable car. The kids love it. Another thing to note is that the cable car runs very late in the winter so you can always go into town at any time.

You'll love it. Been to the Montana in Oberlech twice and both stand out as my favourite ski holidays ever. Once as 2 couples and once as 3 families. The kids absolutely loved the toboggan run down to Lech, although it might not be open pre Xmas??

I’ve been to Lech several times, never stayed in Oberlech but I’ve often enjoyed lunch at Petersboden.

Being beginner we will be hiring class from the skishool Oberlech. Other than the hotel area, when else can we explore with the gondola?
