 Poster: A snowHead

We plan about 3 weeks (mid Jan-early Feb) somewhere in France, and want to try somewhere new. We've done GM, 3V and PdS plenty, and frankly comfy accommodation is getting hard to find; becoming the main criterion!. I've come across a house in Seez, which appears well placed for Bourg and La Ros. We spent a day at the latter from La Thuille a while back.
I'd appreciate any info, advice and tips about the area; and Seez as a base. Thanks.

@Charliegolf, Probably not a bad base for a longish stay, but you'll need to do a lot of research on the bus timetables. The funicular to Les Arcs is not that far away and the bus from Bourg st Maurice to Les Eucherts probably goes through the village.
I do not think the timetables are out yet but keep an eye on https://seez.fr/horaires-navette/ for when they are released.

Seez is not really a tourist town, it's a village on the road up from Bourg St Maurice - as you have discovered you can take the road up to La Rosiere and the Petit St Bernard pass, or up towards Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, Tignes, and Val d'Isere (and Villaroger which links into Les Arcs).
It's a ten minute drive into BSM to get the funicular up to Les Arcs, or a 20 minute drive up to Arc 1600 (longer for other villages). La Rosiere seems to be about 30 minutes up the hill but I've never driven up there, only skiied over from La Thuile
Based on passing through Seez, I can recall seeing a couple of small supermarkets, the only pharmacy before you get into BSM, a florist, a couple of bars and various other businesses.

@johnE, We'll be driving, so driving daily isn't a problem. Though the bus to the funicular might appeal too.
@nbt, I'd be fine driving up to La Ros, but Mrs G can be a stresser on windy roads. Any views on the drive? Ta.

15 minutes to Villaroger
10 minutes to Ste Foy
La Ros is 25 minutes via the backroad but it is steep but gets a lot of sun
-- all with a car
I'd probably drive to mid station of the Arcs funi rather than BSM - at the risk of finding no space on the funi going up.
Seez is a real village with shops and bars, some ski instructors live there as it is cheaper.

I agree with @davidof, assessment, much cheaper than other villages, and has good services (and access to big supermarkets if you have the car).
The only "negative" is that it will see a lot of traffic on Saturdays.

With a car the Super U in Bourg st Maurice is only a short drive away.
@davidof, I'd probably park in the funicular car park at the bottom and get the funicular all the was up. Car parking at La Grange is difficult (most spaces are full most of the time). I have no idea what parking is available at the other mid station, Montrigon.

@Charliegolf, I’ll make a little prediction, you end up skiing in Sainte Foy more than you would now imagine . Little tip a season pass in Sainte Foy is a very good price and includes a full day ticket in Les Arcs , Val/Tignes and a discounted day rate in La Rosiere .

The road up to LaRos isn't too bad as mountain roads go. Lots of hairpins through meadows at the botton, then forrest higher up. There aren't precipitous drops.

The entrance to the La Rossiere is at Les Eucherts which is up the Petit st. Bernard pass. Google maps shows about a dozen hairpins which is not too bad (I've just come back from the Dolomites where we have been negotiating perhaps over 50 hairpins just going over passo Giau (29 from Selva to the top alone) and again coming back). There are a few hairpins going upto Tignes and St Foy but these are on pretty wide major roads. Going up to Les Arcs has only 3 hairpin bends. Overall the roads are easy to drive.
A season pass for Les Arcs is good value but doesn't allow any free days at other resorts. It breaks even at about 13 days. There are about half a dozen hairpins going upto Villaroger another entry point to the Les Arcs domain, which is less than 10km from Seez.

Dont forget just 4 turns up from seez you can get the echerdets *sp chair up and down to resort rather than driving and there is free parking. Probably about 5 mins in a car

I think you mean Les Ecudets, not to be confused with Les Eucherts.
Les Ecudets sits just above Seez at 1190m, the lowest entry point to La Ros ski area. The chair is a bit slow, but a nice little back door that will save you driving up the rest of the hairpins up to Les Eucherts or La Ros.
Nice run down through the forest to Les Ecudets too if the snow is good. Cosy little hut at the bottom near the chairlift, Le Vieux Chalet

I live in Seez. 15 mins to Sainte Foy, 10 to funi. La Rosiere about 30 mins, can save a few mins via the back road but the main road is the easiest resort drive in the valley for sure (wide road and not steep). 5 mins to SuperU in Bourg Saint Maurice, but decent mini-market in Seez plus a good butcher and bakery.
I definitely wouldn't drive to funi mid-station (sorry davidoff!) unless you're hoping to be able to ski back down to your car.
The Malgovert hotel in Seez has a pretty lively bar and decent food. Le Relais des Villards is good too.
