The more detailed Italian version is saying 'copious' (heavy) snow in the 2000-2500m range. Precipitation across the region of 60-90mm which should translate into 60-90cm of snow at altitude.
Cams should be turning white later and 60-90cm?? 'copious' snow still being forecast at altitude by tomorrow morning!

We had a spontaneous trip to the Dolomites a couple of weekends ago now. Woke up on the Friday with no plans for the weekend, so finished work mid afternoon hopped in the van and drove south. It's probably looking very different now to how it did 2 weekends ago with this weather front!

Err, just slightly!!
Looks like you caught it just right weather-wise!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

The question is...how long will it stick around??
You know it makes sense.

Is it unusual to get snow this early?

Couple of new lifts for next year

Braia Fraida (above Corvara) is also being replaced with a 6 person one
nice to see some updates, thanks for sharing.

I initially thought these were real -- but they aren't (they are also there in earlier images.. )
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@luigi, we walked through the main high street of Colfosco and past Hotel Capella and noted it looked very fancy!
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Here's a photo of the old Braia Fraida chairlift (installed in 1994):
I think Braia Fraida means something like "cold arse" in Ladin (at least that's what one of Igor Tavella's videos said).
If the new chairlift has a canopy or even (luxury!) heated seats then perhaps the old name won't be so appropriate in future!

it would be good if they upgraded the two lifts between Pralongi and Cherz (Vizza & Masserei?) they're really slow with no heating, a cü cailt would be nice!

Alastair -- Ski Resort Info indicates that the new lift will indeed have seat heating and a 'bubble' (canopy?) - they just need to do the same with the Masarei (Misery) one !!

I like the deliberate spelling mistake there. Maserei by name, but misery to ride it on a cold day!

re the languages which I find fascinating...
One of my instructors who I've used for a couple of years was born and raised in Arabba. I asked him how they become fluent in three languages (Italian, Ladin and German). He told me that when he was at school the language used was on a three week cycle. So e.g. week 1 only speak Italian in all lessons, week 2 only Ladin, week 3 German. Also they speak different languages with different people so he'd chat to one liftie in German because they've know each other forever and always speak in German, the next in Ladin etc
anyway, fingers crossed for good snow and hoping February isn't as warm as last year.

The Maserei is still quite new. I think circa 2010 it was a double chair or tbar it may be too windy for a canopy ?

The current 6-seater entered in service in 2008 according to this:
They are also replacing the bottom lift at Santa Croce but I don't think that is open till next summer.
The new Braia Fraida lift was well on when we were there in July
Antercrëp (Padon I) We were not over there but I'm not sure they started upgrading this one.
"it would be good if they upgraded the two lifts between Pralongi and Cherz (Vizza & Masserei?)" I think the fact the lifts are so fecking cold most of the time keeps the runs nice and quiet? Nicer uplift would atract to many punters.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Padon 1 is expected to be ready for the upcoming season
New Gondola at La Crusc and a Big new reservoir on the Piz Sorega above San cassiano.
The Braia Freda which has the intermediate stop near the summit, is being upgraded to a six person chair, presumably because it gets queues in high season?
Interesting to see that they cut the grass like we do in the North Pennines !

@albob, I think that is a chairlift replacement for Antercrep no 12 on the lift map, up to Pass Padon from the Arabba side.

It is indeed - it appears on some maps (google earth for one) as Padon 1 though
