Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Marker bindings for track mounted skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, I'm new to Snowheads so here goes.
I have a pair of 2013 K2 Amp Richtor 82 skis with Marker track mounted binding (factory fitted)
I have recently bought new boots that are Gripwalk and although they fit my newer Salomons I like the K2 skis and want to find a compatible gripwalk binding that fits the K2/Marker tracks.
Any suggestions?

You'll have to look up the spec of the Marker tracks.

Might be easier to swap out the gripwalk pads on your boots for alpine DIN. Retailers are negligent IMV if they don't ask you this when they flog you a boot

Cheers, just looked up the alpine soles for my boots. May do more research on whether to change the soles or bindings for ease of use.

well perhaps if you can tell us which bindings are fitted to the rail on the skis someone would be able to help ? IF it's the mxc 12 binding there appears to be a gripwalk version available .

The bindings are Marker MZ10 plus there is a large 2 on opposite side. Maybe the bindings are slightly older than the skis as on some of the 2013 K2s the bindings are MX12s.
Have a picture but not sure if you can post one on this forum.

Anyone know if you can get grip walking bindings compatible with these rails? The wife has a set of volkl piste skis (2014) she is rather fond of. Ideally we like to update with gripwalk bindings.

Rails looks similar to Marker FDT system. Except the toe and heels held in place by single screw on a rail. So there is no metal track...

Alternative plan might be to try and remove the rail. Though I fear it might be integral to ski construction.

IMHO for anything 10 years plus old I wouldn't waste the time and money trying to "frankenstein" old rail skis with new gripwalk bindings. It's highly likely they won't be compatible.
I think it's probably new ski time to go with the new boots....tech moves on but you'll both find something you like skiing on...

No word from Marker re the track bindings, so I opted for heel and toe replacement soles for Alpine skiing, which are available from Nordica. I can now use the old and new skis with the new boots.

@Haggis_Trap, my wife had Volkl skis with the same bindings and I couldn’t find any way of making them GW compatible. She’s very happy with her new skis - Head Real Joy.

Get both pairs of skis Quiver Killered for your new bindings that work with the boots then you can swap the new bindings between skis in 10 minutes whenever you like.

Yup - I think that is my conclusion too ....

Grip walk bindings are nice to have but the backward compatibility is a pain. Swapping soles regularly not realistic or practical (takes 30mins+ each time and the screws inevitably thread eventually)

Why would you want to swap soles regularly? Surely once you have fitted the alpine soles you are done, they work fine with Gripwalk bindings.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

My bad : I had (wrongly) assumed that gripwalk binding not compatible with both alpine and gripwalk soles.

Fwiw: previously I had some touring boots where I did occasionally swap between the touring sole and alpine sole. That was a total pain.
