Good Morning All -
I'm looking for a relatively cheap pair of all mountain skis. Ideally 170 - 175cm and around a 90mm waist with alpine bindings.
Budget is £100 max to keep myself under the threshold of renting skis working out cheaper, the lower cost the better. If they've got a weeks skiing left in them, I'd consider them. I'll be giving them a good wax and edge.
I'm happy with older skis. I've just retired my 2008 Line Blends so anything 2009 onwards is a real upgrade
I'm based in Leeds, West Yorkshire but happy to collect within reasonable distance, or arrange a courier if further afield.
Cheers - George

@george_1, are you only planning on using them for 1 trip to keep under the rental cost threshold?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@swskier, If I can buy a pair for less than I'd pay for rental, I'm happy. I'll maybe use them again next year if I get on with them and make them even better value for money.

@skimastaaah, cheers - the Line's are probably a bit wide for my next trip but the Salomons are a good shout. Watching a few on ebay and will keep my eyes peeled for more. Have plenty of time to get sorted but always like to get stuff in Summer when hardly anyone else is buying

Don't forget to take into account the cost for getting the shoes to resort if you are flying. For a once a year skier, it often doesn't make sense. Especially as your budget will get you considerably older skis than you would be able to rent.

@TheMikeSki, just fly BA or Swiss/Lufthansa. NEVER fly "Low Cost" airlines who charge an arm and a leg for luggage! Simply work your ski holidays around the flight sales of BA. Much cheaper than Easy/J2.

@TheMikeSki, I work for an airline and one of the perks along with the discounted flights is not having to pay to carry my sports kit. If I can get myself a budget pair of skis then it makes more sense for me than hiring them. I'm not particularly fussed about having the newest model. As long as they fit within a pretty broad preference (length, waist width and not too piste oriented) then I know I'll probably have a great week skiing on them. Last year I had a pair of 2010 Line Blend's that I bought for £50, serviced them myself before and after my week away and then sold them for £50. I wasn't planning another trip this year but the opportunity knocked so I'd like to do the same kind of thing. Nice affordable pair of skis that I can hold onto, or re-sell.

I'm getting to the stage where my preference is to avoid BA. Even once you allow the "arm and a leg" of EasyJet luggage it's often not that different price wise, but at least with EJ the service is reasonable. BA now is drastically underfunded and have a habit of rearranging flights at short notice.

@SnoodyMcFlude, Use Avios for really cheap flights, or wait until BA do a "Sale" on flights. You can get bargain Flights+Hotels, Flights+Car combinations.

You know it makes sense.

@skimastaaah, funnily enough Avios doesn't make them suck any less. Also not keen on how steep the sliding scale of reduction is e.g 100 Avios saves 1 quid, 500 Avios saves 3 quid, 1000 Avios is 4 quid (or equivalent, actual amounts vary)
Other carriers also do Sales and deals on hotels or cars, I just don't have reason to use them that often. I'll still fly BA if it makes sense but EasyJet has generally been a nicer experience for me. I certainly wouldn't write them off on the idea that BA are somehow better, they're just another budget airline with a slightly different way of building up their fare.

@SnoodyMcFlude, 19000 Avios plus £70 get me 2 return flights Heathrow to Milan last week in January.
