Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What goes on in resort over Xmas/NY ?

I'm heading to French Alps in a motorhome and decided to use (what is to me) 'dead' time as my company shuts down from 21st December for 2 weeks.
I've never been skiing across this time and don't really know what happens.
What is open, what is closed?
Are the lifts open etc?
My main base will be BSM.

@Deveron53, in most alpine countries the families have their important Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve, so you may find some shops close early on that day (although lifts will be running as normal). If you want to eat out on Christmas Eve (Edit: or New Year's Eve) rather than self cater in your motorhome you'll probably need a reservation.

Christmas Day is a normal day and the lifts will be open.

On New year's Eve there's usually lots of fireworks at midnight.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Everything above 500m stays the same.

Ski, eat, drink, sleep, repeat.

We were in Chamonix at Xmas and I was surprised how quiet the slopes were.
The town, on the other hand, was rammed. As were the roads.

We were in Tignes for Christmas 2022, and actually found on Christmas Eve the restaurant we went to was very quiet, and they said that everyone has their family meals in their apartments/chalets, so the 24th wasn't that busy.

In terms of skiing, it's business as usual, whatever runs and lifts are able to be open with the conditions will be open, as will mountain restaurants bars etc.

@Deveron53, Iv'e skied over christmas for the last 25 or more year in Les Arcs. My observations are:

1/ It's much better than being in the UK. Much better.
2/ The skiing is good.
3/ Christmas eve and New Year's eve restaurants serve expensive meals and booking is necessary
4/ Lifts and skiing infrastructure is open as normal
5/ There will be fireworks and parties in the bars new year's eve.
6/ New year week will be very busy - the second or third busiest of the year.
7/ Christmas day is a normal ski day.
8/ I will be there from the 14th to the 28th

@Deveron53, there probably won’t be as many inflatable Santas, brightly lit glass reindeer or Morecambe & Wise repeats.

Other than that and a slight increase in living costs, 100% better than being in the UK.

Trying to think which times of the year being in the UK might be better than being in the Alps ? Laughing

It is a good way to stretch you holiday allowance. In my experience the resorts themselves tend to be busy but off the nursery slopes quieter over Xmas on the mountains as there are lots of extended families many of which ski very little or have given up and devote themselves to child care.
