Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone got a Women's North Face Redpoint or Redpoint Optimus jacket? looking into getting one and wondered if it would be good for skiing?

Thx

I've got something similar (North face primaloft jacket which looks just like the mens redpoint jacket - see http://www.mountaingear.com/pages/product/product.asp/item/106997/N/0/cmpn/70125/CMP/KNC-70125/afl/435)
but it doesn't have pit vents or snow skirt so the snow would go straight up your back and down your pants!

I would say it's a bit more of a walking-round-ski-resort-in-evening kind of a jacket... very warm for it's thickness.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Sparkygirl,

Looks like it could be used for spring skiing on the lines of the soft shell concept. I use a MH Synchro which is great for that but it wouldn't be something I want to be caught out in. If you only take one jacket this wouldn't be it IMV

looks like the sort of thing i stick in my bag for when it's VERY cold. you can slip in on over everything else if you find yourself feeling the cold a bit. lighter and warmer than a heavy fleece. bit of a contrast to JT's suggested use - just goes to show how much it's a matter of personal taste!

anyway, i don't think it'll be very waterproof (the zip isn't waterproof or covered with waterproof material). the shell fabric on those sort of things isn't usually very waterproof or resistant to abrasion. so I wouldn't recommend it as your only jacket. might be a good as an alternative (or in addition) to a gore-tex shell

i got a really good deal on a northface free thinker jacket last year, over £100 less than S&R.

Bob, I've just bought the Free Thinker, how have you got on with it? What are it's strenghts and what are it's weaknesses? My initial criticism is the hood is a little small. What do you think?
