Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Exercise in Arc 1950

Hi,

Following an accident and knee surgery last year, I'm heading back to ski this week. I'm not going hard, even with my brace! I was just wondering if anybody else has been to Arc 1950 (or other Arcs using the bus) and perhaps, gone for a run? Are there any winter trails? I don't need to go far and I know altitude will be tougher than sea level but I think I might go insane sitting in the appartment while the rest of the family are bombing down blacks Sad

@saschlet, One time when I was housebound during the winter season, I used to get the Cabriolet lift up to 2000, and there's a pedestrian track which goes up to and around the reservoir. It's not a huge distance, maybe 1.5 km, but you could run a few times around the lake to get a major distance in your legs without being too far from an exit choice. Eminently doable.

Alternatively, I've had (utterly mad) friends get up early, and run down the road to 1600 (10km) and back, or get the bus in one direction or other, depending on whether they wanted uphill or downhill training. Then they'd come skiing with us. Bonkers (triathletes - says it all).

There is also a 'fitness trail' around the village itself with various exercise stations (that may or may not be buried by snow). Ask at any of the receptions.
(I think it may be listed as 'parcours raquettes' in winter - which is snow snowing, but in current climes, may be accessible in trainers Smile )

I tore my quad when staying in Arc 2000 a few years ago. After a couple of days rest, I started skinning out by the side of the pistes in the main bowl above Arc 2000, and took very gentle blues back down. I already had touring kit with me, but I expect there would be somewhere in Les Arcs where you can rent touring kit

You are surrounded by mountains. Walk up them? The tourist office will probably have a map of walking and snowshoeing trails. Especially if you walk downhill, or on icy surfaces, wear good non-slip footwear and maybe use ski poles. More likely to hurt your injured knee slipping on an icy pavement than skiing on suitable pistes.
