Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Love my Oakley Hi Pinks, I swap them with Rose depending what the sky looks like when I look out of the bedroom window in the morning. Oakley Prism looked like a step change when I got them a few years back, don't know if anyone is doing anything better now.

I'm afraid there is no magic bullet for flat light...there is just marginally better. Some people prefer yellow/orange, while others prefer pink/rose. Skiing in flat light is 70% technique (and confidence/experience) imo.

@jimdonut, I have both the yellow and rose smith lenses and I find the yellow one is better for me in low light.
I don't know if an individual's eyes vary so as one of the tints is more suitable.

The yellow has a higher VLT value than the rose I think.

For proper cloudy flat light, a clear lens does the trick, the problem comes when you get a slight bit of brightness and your pupils scream at you.

I recently got some new Smith I/o goggles and whatever the low light lens is with those us very good, but as above the definition thing if different colours is mostly subjective. Personally I like to get something with as good VLT as possible for my low light option

Surprised the Smith storm yellow doesn't work. I ski Smith storm rose most days ( shady North facing slopes and cloud cover) but recently I've been reverting to cheapy Decathlon hi yellow on really foul viz days.

Just bought Oakley Prizm Snow Clears, had them out today for the first time in flat light (whiteout at the top) and loved them! Even though it says ‘clear’ in the model name they’re not totally clear, they have a slight pink/lilac hue to them that adds contrast & depth to the snow. They let 64 % of light through. The Hi-Pinks let about 45 %.

Tried them head to head with Pinks yesterday outside a shop at the resort in similar conditions and just thought the Snow Clears were a better flat light lens - but then again I already have a pair of Smith Chromapops that are a tad darker than Oakley’s Pinks so the Pinks would be a bit redundant in my use case.

If you have the possibility to try out Pinks and Clears in flat light, just give them a go! Really can’t go wrong either way, unless you have to make do with one pair of goggles for several days in which case I recommend the Hi-Pinks.

@Dave of the Marmottes, storm yellow is pretty good with smith io. I used the everyday green ones on all but completely overcast/ whiteout. Tbh googles can only do so much, they can't magically create more sunlight and shadows out of thin air!
