Poster: A snowHead

I know the usual 'book online and save 50%' ads are always out three, but does it really save that much?
Heading to VT very late in the season (20th April), so it's not like anywhere will be sold out, but is it likely that we'd end up paying significantly more by just turning up at a resort shop, rather than booking online now?
We are staying at Les Balcons de Val Thorens if that helps. There seems to be Intersport shops on site.
4 travelling, and need to rent 3 x pairs of skis, 1 x board and 1 x ski boots.I
Cheers

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Depends if you book directly with shop or with a 3rd party aggregator.
Often seen shop advertising more selection than 3rd party. A 'gold' third party may only be equal to shop 'red'.
However that depends on who the 3rd party is. I think intersport will give you nearer to what you booked than some other 3rd party aggregators.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you book online with Intersport they will will show you both the current discounted and shop/walk-in prices. No reason to think the latter isn't correct. I guess the discounts reduce the closer you get to arrival, but never actually checked.

@SHAP,
That late in season it could be cheaper to buy a pair of ex-hire skis than rent them.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Your cheapest option might be online direct from a small independent shop. I hired "black" skis from La Cabane à Skis in Oz last month at €67 each for 4 people for 6/7 days. That was: web price minus 5% group discount minus 10% offer in January. It was also a 10% deposit on booking and pay the balance when you return the skis! And they were lovely people too!
The comparable Sport 2000 prices were €106 online or €133 [claimed] shop price. Skimium were similar.

@SHAP, Wait until in resort, find a privately owned shop and discuss a cash price.
