Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sole/Binding compatability?

Up till now I've only skiied pure Alpine style using standard type soles on normal bindings.

However the lure of touringy stuff is growing.

I have 2018 Salomon QST Pro 120 boots - one of the features of which is interchangeable sole units, so I can swap (a very limited number of times) to pin-type touring soles.

I'm tempted to get a set of pin-type soles in the near future just so I have them as and when I need them.

My question is - how well do the tech soles work with normal Alpine bindings? I asked the guy who runs the chalet we regularly use and who supplies our skis, and he said it "should" be fine, so long as the skis have an antifriction plate under the toe. Indeed its this setup his wife uses, as she finds her touring boots more comfortable for alpine skiing. I haven't had a proper gander at her boots though to see how the interface actually works.

...and would any of the boot-fitter types care to confirm that these are the correct sole modules to fit my boots..?

I’m fairly sure the tech sole on QST boots is ISO 9523 (you’ll want to check this). If so, it is not compatible with either standard alpine (ISO 9462) or gripwalk bindings. You can check a full compatibility chart for more information.

If you value your limbs, do not trust the opinion of someone who says it ‘should be fine’.
