Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ötztal Valley in the Summer?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey,

Anyone got any recommendations for Ötztal Valley summer bases? Any towns/villages or even specific apartments/chalets to use as a base for hiking/biking/climbing/klettersteig/alpinism. We'll be a group of about 15 and a couple of pubs/restaurants would be good.

Cheers

Depends what you want to do. Vent has a [single] pub which is where I stayed up there. Standard Austrian beer & food and handy for the huts & peaks around there. Sölden has fancy hotels and stuff.

I would suggest Vent too, perfect base for a number of excursions, including the Wildspitze, Tirol's highest spot. However not exactly a bustling spot with a selection of places to eat & drink. Depending on your group you might be better off lower down the valley.

Either Ötz or Sölden.

Sölden if you want direct access to the bikepark and lifts; Ötz if you want a prettier village and to be nearer Area47 and the rafting. There are still lifts from Ötz plus hiking and climbing, but for mtb (on trails rather than gravel roads) you’ll need to bus or drive up to Sölden (at least for the legal stuff).

Generally should be easy bus transport up and down the whole valley.

Tip for a cool hike: Obergurgl up to the Ramolhaus. Good glacier views and a couple of small lakes/ponds for a dip.

+2 on Vent. Unless you're looking for a party scene, it's the ideal small Austrian village at the end of the road. Stayed at the Hotel Post, https://www.alpinhotel-post.com/. 4* would recommend. Also stayed at the Wildspitze, https://www.wildspitz.at/home.html, which is run by the same family as the Post. They also run the Similaun Hutte at the pass going over to Italy.
