Poster: A snowHead

Me and wife are thinking of trying Kitzbuhel on the week of the 10th march? I see it’s quite low is there normally snow cover at that time of year ? And is it a good sized area for some regular skiers. Only been to St anton in Austria. Otherwise normally France.

Resort is open until Apr 21.
Mar 10-17 should be fine.
Some lower trails may be thin or start to close.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@redthunder, As ever impossible to say what conditions will be over a month in the future. We could see a return to cooler wintry weather. However my personal experience over the past 20 odd years I have been skiing these parts is that Kitzbühel, SkiWelt etc are at their best in January (maybe not so much at the moment) and onto mid February. Once the days get longer and the air milder the pistes deteriorate fairly quickly. You will typically find plenty of snow but it tends to soft sugar. Kitzbühel does have a fair amount of higher skiing which is likely to be good but lower down not so much. It depends what you want from your holiday. Mid March might be a week or too early for afternoons on sunny terraces drinking beer but with the changing climate who knows. Personally I would look at the Zillertal as that has a good deal of higher skiing (including a glacier). Ischgl might be good (though not cheap). I am not a fan of Sölden / Obergurgl but again plenty of high skiing

@redthunder, Zillertal = Mayrhofen, Zell am Ziller , Kaltenbach, Hintertux glacier and a few more spots. Easy to get there on the train from Innsbruck.

Skied Kitzbuhel, Ski Welt and Saalbach in the same week (10 March) last year. All were a bit soft as to be expected. Came back to Flachau and had much better conditions.
Zillertal should be good as you can head up to Hintertux if things are bad. Have you booked flights yet? Salzburg would also throw up Schladming or Bad Gastein by train, which are on the same lift pass as the rest of Ski Amade.
