Poster: A snowHead

Any advice to get back to it? I was ok at skiing, not amazing but ok.
I bust my ACL & PCL in a low-speed fall last year and had recon in May. Have got pretty good strength back in quads and hammies with a decent amount of BodyPump and spinning. I've bought a fancy "combined instabilities" Donjoy Armor brace and will wear a cheaper one on my good knee. I was thinking of taking a few hours of private lessons. Are the ESF instructors used to post-injury scaredy-cats?
I think it'll take time to get my confidence back. Anyone got any positive stories or tips?

@saschlet, highly recommend and Inside Out session in Hemel if you can get there. They fully understood my head demons in the return to skiing post knee surgery thing.
They offer discounts for snowheads first time with them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@saschlet, my experience after ACL injury 20 years ago is that regular instructors can be unbelievably hit and miss in terms of (1) understanding (2) actually genuinely knowing how to support specific people - since each injury and recuperation is very individual.
An exception is Dave M

Worth getting in contact since his recommendations are gold-dust

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

My rehab diary is here:

My general advice given your location would be to book your self into a total beginners group lesson and step through the learning progression slowly, rebuilding skills and confidence. Choosing a nice snow day will help if you are in the Alps - crispy ice won't. Working on Proprioception and balance skills will be worth while as the surgery can damage nerve endings.

@saschlet, at more length, I did my ACL on 18 Jan last year, recon 29 March. Lots of physio (France, French healthcare) and lots of time on bike and in gym.
It's been absolutely fine knee wise on skis, but my head is a bit "off". Basically set my confidence back a few levels. Poor light is a nightmare.
Anyhoo, I'm having a lesson (!?? haven't had one of those in a few years) tomorrow with Antoine someone who is mostly a physio but also a full-cert instructor. While I think I'm getting better on my own, no point not accelerating the process.
I haven't bothered with a brace as surgeon and physio said not to.
