Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Beginner ski touring routes around st gervais

We are taking our van out to the alps at the end of feb and are keen to spend a few days ski touring. This is mainly for the exercise and earn your turns elements rather than opening up off piste. If anyone has any recommendations for routes where you can tour up from the car park (e.g. a cat track) and ski back on piste that would be much appreciated. We will be around Port du Soleil, Saint Gervais les Bains etc but are mobile…

Good options in the area.

There are marked skinning trails around Combloux:

Otherwise you can head up to Les Contamines. I'd suggest either
a) skin up the track from Le Lay to Collombaz. From there you can continue up the track towards the ski area or head right up to the ridge (off piste).
b) buy a skitouring day pass and do one of the easy routes from the Buche Croissee chair towards col de fenetre, col de siecle or rochers des enclave. These are not long or hard but you need to route find, ski off piste and manage avalanche risk.
