Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Last minute Booking

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask - very new here!

I'm looking at making a late booking, heading out 28th January. Initially we were thinking of going to Sauze or Sestriere, but the conditions haven't looked the best.

Some options I like the look of at the moment :

- Morzine
- Courchevel
- Les Arcs

Main thing we're looking for is a decent sized area and (obviously) the most likely chance of good conditions.

Any advice on where to go is much appreciated.

Thanks!

@Mocha_Hagotdi, Welcome to Snowheads! The whole idea of last minute booking is that you wait to see where the best conditions are. Nobody knows what will happen 2 weeks away, so relax and wait a while. It’s a pretty good season though, so you should have plenty of possibilities. Keep an open mind.

@Mocha_Hagotdi, welcome to snowHeads. Those three are all in very big areas. Do you definitely want to go to France on this trip?

Do you have any other preferences? For example, budget/costs, travel, type of accommodation, lift system convenience, non-skiing activities?

If you’re flexible, wait and see what conditions and forecasts are like about a week before departure.

@Mocha_Hagotdi, It can be uncomfortable not having anything booked but that week there will be good availability of last minute deals so hold your nerve! snowHead

Around the middle of the week before, make an assessment of where has decent current conditions and where looks bad. Then look at the forecasts before booking on the 25th / 26th.

Who knows where will be good. Keep an open mind and don't exclude Austria and eastern Italy.

Thanks for responses all, much appreciated!

Will take a breath, stop endlessly searching and hold on till the last week then Eh oh!

Very flexible on location, anywhere is an option really. So far I've only done Sestriere, Passo Tonali then a number of times in the three valleys (by far my favourite) .

No real preferences other than a large area - we tend to get out early, spend as long as possible falling down slopes then a few beers in the evening. Accommodation wise, have done chalets, hotels and apartments - again happy with them all.

Thanks again everyone Eh oh!
