Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Coaching to improve my skiing?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Just got back from Les Arcs and I've decided that I love skiing and I should make some effort to get better. I have dabbled for at least 10 years and never really improved much. It's my 50th at Easter so I'm considering getting some coaching, maybe Chamonix because it is easy to access for a few days.

I can get down reds but would like to be able to do it much more skilfully, especially when conditions are less than perfect.

Any advice/recommendations?

Mick

You might find this thread, which contains the responses to my similar question last year, helpful.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Maybe insideout in the UK in a dome if you are near to where they operate. It is all about having the fundamentals right then you can build from there. I appreciate you want to ski varied conditions better.

Did you have a specific issue?

I think I default to sitting back defensively instead of standing upright with ankle/knee flexion.

Joined the local dry ski club and plan to get help there. Just wondering if I can do something a bit special for my 50th.

FWIW, I took a week’s worth of coaching when I got to a similar point in my skiing. 5 x 2.5 hour lessons. It made a huge difference. I still practice the learned drills if things get out of shape…which they do, from time to time.

The other major factor, personally, was/is fitness.

This. If you're not regularly doing something to keep your cardiovascular capacity, and leg muscles, in good trim, worth making the effort.

I can recommend the Inside Out courses from personal experience and have heard good things about Warren Smith too.
