Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best ski boot fitter in Courchevel?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looking for a boot fitter to blow out/expand part of my shell to allow space for the bone near my little toe. Had it done on my right boot last year in a different resort but need my left done now. Any suggestions who would be best for this in courchevel?

The only people I'd trust in the 3V are Gav and Tom at The Boot Lab in Meribel.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I’ve heard they’re good. Only issue is getting back to courchevel, as last time they kept my boots overnight to set the blown out section

Rent a boot for a day or two from a local shop of same mondo size/bsl. Remove rental liner/footbed. Ski over to Meribel with rental boot in backpack. Ski home in rental boot fitted with your liner/footbed then ski back the next day. Simples!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Joehdhchdhd, Tom at Boot Lab Meribel as mentioned above (Gav is no longer there as he is fully committed to other projects now) - if you can't get over there then go see Fred at the Racing Centre in St Bon.

If the Bootlab is still going, then grab them, had some of their footbeds in the shop yesterday, really good.

Zenith Sports in Val Thorens have been excellent for me and Mrs B over the last few years. They guarantee a comfort fit & expanded a boot shell for me (on one of the new boots I bought there last season) by a couple of mm, or less.

Do you have any experience of them, Spyderjon? Puzzled

I went to Zenith to get my other boot stretched previously and it’s perfect now. But at the time it was only the one giving me pain, now the other is too. Going to courchevel this year so wanted somewhere closer

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Immense shout-out for Ski Center by Fred - in Sainte Bon, Courchevel. https://locationskicourchevel.com/. They are a specialist ski racing shop/work shop. This will sound over top with praise, but with good reason.

I have had painful boots most of my skiing life, as I have very narrow, low-volume feet, which are hard to fit. All my boots have been custom fitted, by S&R (not great), Lockwoods (much better) - but from time to time I have still had severe pain when skiing. Obviously, any fitting you have done in the UK can only go so far, as you're not usually able to ski in the boots and then go back for real time adjustments. I just thought that having some pain was the price I had to pay for wanting a precision fit in relatively serious boots (originally Raichle F-One Pro and then Dalbello Krypton Pro 130 - both for sale if anyone is interested).

I had new boots this year (Dalbello Lupo Pro), and was getting the usual pains in the heel and arch. I had an instructor for the first time in years and he recommended Fred. We drove down to Sainte Bon and popped into the shop and he was able to take a look - he gave my feet and boots the most detailed review I've ever had, and he was the first to identify that whilst the fit overall was fine, there was simply not enough volume in the heel - so my heel was being gently crushed!

He shaved out some more room from the shell, as well as shaving down the custom footbeds a little more. The whole process took about an hour and the fee was very reasonable. I've since skied two weeks entirely pain-free and it's just a revelation. Wish I'd been introduced to someone like Fred 20 years ago!

If you do go, make an appointment first - I was very lucky to have been seen having just walked in the door.
