So, today’s 9am flight from East Midlands took off two hours late due to fog at Chambery. Fog hadn’t cleared when we got there, so after a cursory lap, we headed to Turin to refuel. Then we headed back to Chambery for another cursory lap in the lingering fog and headed to Lyon. Pilot and cabin crew are being refreshingly honest in that they haven’t got a Scooby what’s going to happen other than we aren’t flying anywhere else today.
Rumours are there’s a bar in the terminal. Counter rumour suggests it’s already shut. Counter counter rumour suggests it’s still open but has run out of beer.
Probably not collecting our skis tonight!

What a pain. How very annoying. Astonished transfers haven't been arranged?
Chambery has a bit of a reputation for fog, being at the end of a lake, etc.... (as has Bristol, for that matter)

Just got to Les arc. Over heard a number of families here had their flights cancelled/ delayed going home today, they were still in resort at 5pm... Mentions of useless crystal rep...

@under a new name, this is our first disruption at Chambery after quite a few trips over the years. Life is always a gamble!
As we landed in Lyon literally ten minutes after aborting Chambery for the second time, I reckon Crystal had gone all in on Chambery working out and had no Plan C in place.

Arrivals on flight radar shows 3 TUI flight supposedly coming here from Lyon. Unless there is a miracle lift of fog that isn't happening, jet2s original plan was to refuel at Lyon and then try and take off and land here but that's been canned in favor of bussing people to Lyon. But this is possibly why you haven't been offloaded

@The Flying Snowplough, just been announced at Chambery that Just been announced, all 4 TUI flights will go from Lyon, tomorrow.
Passengers being busses/taxied to Lyon and over nighted there. As too which end the bussed depart first, god knows

We’ve just been told that we’re going back to East Midlands tonight. Lyon is shut. Quite why they landed us here is a matter of some discussion on the plane at the moment…

There are still ~20 more flights showing up on Flightradar24 as being scheduled to land at Lyon tonight and ~10 scheduled departures. It doesn't appear to be shut.

My comment was somewhat ironic. Youngest is nearly 20! But lack of supplies is not a trivial issue and the young kids are getting very tired.

The smooth-talking pilot expanded on the “shut” comment. Apparently there’s limited capacity today and the airport is making its own decisions as to who gets to unload and we didn’t get lucky. But who knows what the real story is? We are at least refuelled now.
