Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

For those that might not know, Ullr* at the beginning of last season ski touring had his Achilles severed, after one failed op after six weeks he was operated on by the equivalent of the French Super Vet who actually worked with Noel Fitzpatrick for a year, and was then off games for the rest of the season.

He's been doing a lot of stuff with us and the vet did say that he'd only be back to 75% in the first year, so we're pretty pleased, that said we did have to turn back as he was finding the deep snow too much.

Obviously, we were somewhat paranoid about the first few pitches with the OH hanging on to him and then letting him go after me, but towards the end we got back into the swing of things, plus he was getting knackered.

In the video, you can hear him howling with excitement Toofy Grin

For the purists snow lower down as you can see was rather wind affected and a tad technical to ski, but not too bad for the first turns of the season Cool

*A product of Norse mythology, Ullr is known as the God of Snow, Patron Saint of Skiers, the son of Sif and stepson of Thor, the God of Thunder. Cold-loving, bow-wielding Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) is said to be an expert skater, skier and hunter who would glide around the world and cover the land with sno

Ten years or so ago our very small cocker had spinal problems. Valérie Heirman at Chamonix booked her into the Veterinary Hospital near Annecy and two weeks later she was well on the way to recovery.
Dr. Bernardé is a great guy, he explained everything in excellent English. I don't know whether or not he knew Fitzpatrick, but he had even given veterinary lectures in Keystone Colorado (and the USA being the USA he lectured in English).

Looking good. He deals with it better than the Jacks do but he's got a bit of a genetic advantage.

Our pup experienced his first snow this weekend. Only inch or so, so he didn’t get to test his 20 week old snow shoes...

And he was more interested in finding dead rabbits (lot of mixi' about) anyway. Found 3 in 40 min Mad

Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer. The rough cost has only come through on his face, feet/and ower legs so far. There's a fair bit of Weim' in the breed though. Weims are great though; I lost mine 4 years ago.

@Weathercam, glad he's back up and running! Was it a ski edge that did the damage?

@Weathercam, superb! Ullr looks like he’s in his element there! And smart too keeping his distance from those ropey turns of yours NehNeh

Our dog loves ski touring too but struggles in the deep snow and the cold pow gets between his paws

Glad to see he is back, did a ski edge cause the issue?

We have a skinny Saluki, I’ve always wondered if she could cope with some April/May touring in the Scottish Highlands, main issue I think would be a long enough/safe enough leash as with a sight hound if they see a deer/hare/rabbit they are off!

@clarky999, @kitenski, it was a horrible fluke of an accident!

I was skinning up with a friend and his dog and the snow was very deep, luckily we had skinned up the piste which was nigh on perfect as the resort was only a few days from opening. Once at the top, we started a traverse to get to some nice lines, it was obvious dogs were struggling so I said to my mate come in behind me and we'll lay a track, unfortunately, Ullr didn't like that and ran around my mate just as we dropped into a little depression in which Ullr got stuck, and then my mate who had committed as it were to ski in and out of the depression couldn't stop or avoid him & skied into him.

Even though my mate had his dog, he hadn't toured with him too often, and has since skied into his dog a couple of times cutting him!

My OH since has written a blog of lessons learnt compared to skiing with the Jacks, and ironically we have skied with the Jacks a lot in powder, but it was so cold and light and steep, they had no problems descending in our tracks as you'll see!

It's not too good a video, way too long, so fast forward to 02:10 - and was back Dec 12 2018

And I'm now kicking myself watching that, as I should have gone there yesterday as I went back up Lautaret way and the snow was awful, 750m of climbing for a few decent turns in pockets of wind-blown snow rolling eyes
