Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

After market Boot Liners

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Been wondering this for a while, so thought i'd ask everyone on here their thoughts.

I have a very nice pair of boots (Head Raptor RS 140) supplied by Solutions4Feet (Keith) but have been thinking about after market liners for a while.

It's probably a question I should go straight to @CEM on, but what's peoples thoughts on after market liners?

What's the reason you had one in your boot? I've skied c.50 days in the stock liner of my boots, so am I getting towards a new liner anyway?

I've never had a properly fitted boot prior to these, Snow and Rock in the past generally, and i've also not really played around with my equipment much, so don't really have any thoughts or knowledge around this area.

Virtually all the instructors i've trained with/taken exams with/skied with all have after market liners, so am I missing a trick here? Laughing

I'd probably nip round to the next valley to H&N Sports as they have the best reputation round here I believe for boot fitting.

Any thoughts greatly welcome snowHead

@swskier, when I bought my boots from/had them fitted by CEM, he immediately ripped out the stock liners and installed Zipfits in their place. But I don't think Solutions4Feet discard the stock liners in principle. If yours had not been suitable, they surely would have said so, so I guess they're probably fine.

I use the SIDAS foam injection liners and they are great. I only got them because of blisters with the stock liners.

It was just a freak thing with the stock liners. Otherwise I would have been happy with them.

@swskier, if the stock liners still feel precise why change them? If it feels like they’ve packed out and you can no longer get a snug fit, an aftermarket liner can improve this. They can also help give the boot a stiffer feeling with foam, although that doesn’t sound necessary in a 140 flex boot.

@BobinCH, they're only set up at 130 flex, but with another screw I can go to 140 or 2 screws to 150.

They do feel like they're less snug than they were originally, but, I'll ski them again this weekend and really think about what's going on down there while I ski.

Yes, this must be right. Sorry, my answer only addressed the position on purchase, not wear and tear over time.

@swskier, CEM fitted my current Head boots with the stock liners and they were great. Go on 3-4 seasons, probably 20 weeks or so and they start to feel a little loose and I don't have quite the control that I thought I remembered. Make an appointment with CEM expecting to buy new boots for him to say that I don't need new boots just liners. He fitted Zipfit which have been brilliant.
