Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Feb half term southern French resorts

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all,

Planned to do Italy but now a family member living in southern france wants to join us at feb half term for skiing.

Looking at southern alps. Our week clashes with north and parisien hols but not southern france.

So…montgenevre? Isola 2000?

Any where else that might not get the Paris crowd?

Help!!!!

Beginners/cruisey blue lovers.

How about straddling the boarder-ish for Southern based family travel convenience ?

Sauze D Oulx possibly offers the best combination and fit for capturing all the elements, including being in Italy Very Happy absolutely ideal from ski skills outlook of slope type in abundance too.

Come into The Maurienne Valley, easy trip through the Frejus tunnel and then look at Val Cenis which is easily accessible, great skiing and will not be busy. The ski pass also allows you to ski at Aussois, Bonneval Sur Arc, Valfrejus or La Norma.

was it closed...although I don't think you need to take it if you are coming from England (I'm assuming that is where the OP is travelling from)

The rail link will be out for up to a year though, you can get as far as St Jean de Maurienne then bus.

Can't your family member get to Italy? Probably a shorter journey than you'll have if you are UK based.

@davidof, it was closed while we were out in SC in September.

@Clairey1975, Serre Chevalier will be easily accessible to both of you.

The tunnel de Frejus isn't closed, but there are currently alternating one way traffic restrictions in place. Not sure how long that lasts though.

Thanks tunnel wise…we are flying either Turin or Nice/Marseille
depending on resort.

Sauze…went two years ago at feb half term and the snow was practically non existent so nervous to go there again or anywhere near like Sestriere.

We did the tunnel in the summer…9 hour jam to get through Eh oh!

I have been to Val Cenis at half term during the French Feb break and the queues weren't too bad. I can't remember which districts were on holiday though.

Montgenevre ticks all your boxes and has a much better snow record than the other milky way resorts.

Montgenevre would be a good choice. It is ideal for beginners and has good ski schools. It also has an excellent snow record

Would Montgenevre attract the Paris crowd though? Trying to avoid!

@Clairey1975, I have no idea as I always avoid skiing at half term. However there hasn’t been as much building in Montgenevre as some other french resorts in recent years so it is less likely to be really crowded. Furthermore if there are any intermediates in your group they could easily ski over to Claviere which tends to be less busy. I would stay on the french side though as there is better accommodation and the ski schools are good.
