Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Espace Killy -> La Daille to Les Brevieres

Howdy,

Looking for accom in EK for our trip this year, we'd like to Apres at Folly but are struggling to find suitable accom that isn't in Les Brevieres. Does anyone know if there's a bus that'll get you from La Daille to Les Breviers late?

Cheers

Not that I’m aware of. There are buses from La Daille to Tignes 1800 to Tignes Le Lac. If the piste from 1800 to Brev was still open that would be an option but after it closes you are on your own and likely to bump into a piste basher.

If you are good quick skiers then it’s 2 lifts from the Folly to Brev, Tommeuses and Chaudannes but you’ll miss the last 20 minutes of overpriced drinks and Coke.

Provided there isn't much of a queue for Tommeuses.

@rookuu, out of curiosity, what is it that's limiting your accommodation choices to 'Brev?

I['m more interested as to why anyone would actually want to après-ski at the FD in the first place. Noisy, terrible music, overpriced, overcrowded...

No, it's not just me getting old, I always hated it.

Nope, it's just fun. Especially at the end of a good skiing day.
One can also argue that skiing is expensive, counterproductive, unethically from an ecological point of view etc.
But it's fun and those that are willing and able to, are doing it.
Not many apres in France unfortunately. Or Italy and CH.
So when you can not reach Austria and pay silly money on Austrian playlists and Jaeger bombs etc, you have to settle for what life throws at you. Hence Folie Douce, Pano Bar, Cocorico.
It's a harsh reality but we suffer with dignity (well, not really)

I'm sure a taxi from La Daille down to Les Brevieres would cost less than a a couple of watered down Oranginas at the FD ... on a serious note, what are your exact dates? I'm surprised there are no options between La Daille and Val and Val proper?

rookuu not that Im aware of. Theres the bus to 1800 I believe running again and a LOT of people who miss Tommeuse back end up getting that from La Daille but to Brev itself no. As Kenzie has said and you decide to ski back then make sure you are in Tommeuse queue early!

chocksaway - overpriced drinks and coke comment - brilliant!

FWIW I think most people know that I am not the biggest fan of LFD but it does serve certain persons wanting a bit of fun up a mountain and yes for socials but there are better places to have a drink.... and a lot cheaper!

Not overly keen on FD myself, but I do love a band in Coco's straight off the slope!

If nobody is shouting 'Mama Lauda' or 'Depp Depp Johnny Depp', it's not proper apres ski

A mix of budgets and expectations Razz Was looking for a 5/6/7 bedroom self-catered chalet, was mostly smaller apartments up top or started to get real pricey. La Daille / Val looked completely out of our price range compared to Tignes. We ended up going for two seperate apartments in Le Lac. Which should have us more in the mix for the nightlife.

We're only a couple of trips in and are still finding out what we like as a group, it's unlikely that we wouldn't at least try FD, but if ya'll have suggestions for other spots - I'm all ears!

@rookuu, Personal choices and each to their own.

But I think you're much better off in @Lac. You can maximise your ski time (and your apres), without the need for buses or taxis up and down the hill.

You can get back into 'Lac, Lavachet or Val Claret using just one or two lifts from the Folly D. As mentioned above, just don't be late getting to the Tommueses lift.

You can download from the top of Toviere by gondola. Apres at Cocorico in Val Claret. It's a short walk to catch the free circular buses, but it also seems to be a bit of a hot spot for ski and board theft.

I've always wondered this. I've never seen anyone lock their gear up whilst out and about. Is some kind of lock worth bringing around?

IMO. It is worth getting a lock for a few reasons:

1. It stops someone lifting your skis in error
2. It deters the opportunist, by making your skis harder to take, compared with unsecured skis
3. It could make the difference in whether your insurance company pays out in the event of your skis being stolen

One should still mix and match pairs with others in the group.

It won't however stop the determined and prepared thief.

for someone who is staying in La Daille, were thinking of trying the Follie. Is it awful, we are looking for somewhere fun on NYE and thought a few drinks here would be fun from 3/4 pm on NYE unless someone has a better suggestion. Party of 2 familys with 9 , 11, 12 and 15 year old.
Is FD that bad??

@vegas007,

If you're staying in La Daille you can go and see what you think of the intoxicated apres ski clientele at the Folie Douce. Make sure you leave well before them, if you're staying in the centre of Val d'isere you don't want to be trying to get on the bus from La Daille at the same time as the Folie Douce clients.

You can either ski down to La Daille or catch the La Daille gondola lift down.

The Rose Blanche the rustic bar with the terrace by the bus stop in La Daille is always a nice place and may have live music on the terrace. If you're in the centre of Val d'isere Coco Rico can be a bit of a lively apres ski stop, it's by the Rond Point where the free buses exit the tunnel just above the nursery slopes.

I would never subject our 2 teenage boys to that nonsense ...

My personal choice would be Cocorico as it's more subtle and much more convenient to escape from ...
