Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sky Alps flying London to Bolzano

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just read this, not sue if posted before:

The Italian Civil Aviation Authority has issued SkyAlps with an air operator certificate, making it a fully formed independent airline (the first in South Tyrol); it plans to grow its fleet to 14 aircraft by early next year. The London flights will leave Stansted on Wednesdays and Sundays, from December 13 to April 14, using 76-seat Dash 8 Q400 aircraft

thanks for sharing we're currently pricing up for next year, shame it's double the price of Ryanair to Verona but definitely an option for some people/situations e.g. a couple going to Selva.

@BoardieK, useful information thanks. For anyone who has their own skis note that the Dash 8 Q400 tend to have limited ski carrying space.

They'll be strapping 2/3 Thule ski boxes to the roof.

They have been around for some years serving summer destinations -- it is just the addition of UK flights that is new (might still only last 18 months !)

To be fair, the Q400 is a proper aircraft. :

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

I can think of two good reasons not to use them and a possible third.

The dreadful bone rattler Q400 - even in Flybe days Exeter Amsterdam was a dreadful journey.

Stansted unless you live in London or East Anglia....and, even then, after a very limited experience of Stansted, just Stansted - a foul airport

...and, Flybe, had a very short maximum ski bag length due to hold constraints

Bolzano is a very small airport = small planes. I flew in there many years ago (with Inghams?) - the arrival lounge could not cope with a full plane load of passengers, we had to queue outside ! (Luckily the weather was fine...)

 You know it makes sense.

@countryman, The "hold constraints" on FlyBe's Dash-8 aircraft were just that they "bulked out" - where there was an Embraer operating soon afterwards (e.g. during some winters on the Southampton-Chambery route) whatever didn't fit in the Dash-8 went into the Embraer. Dispatch at SOU were very good in that respect - CMF always knew ow many skibags had been transferred. Of course, if there was no Embraer to pick up the leftovers there would be a problem.

Don't understand this flight really.

Mid Jan dates comparison 14-21 Jan:

SkyAlps €368 return
Easyjet to Innsbruck £75 return.

Bolzano Airport to Val Gardena showing on google maps at 52mins
Innsbruck Airport to Val Gardena showing on google maps at 1hr46mins

So an additional 1hr transfer for an extra nearly €200 per person. Ok cost of transfer from Innsbruck likely to be more expensive, but the difference will be nowhere near the €200 extra the flight costs.
