Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

L'Oxalys, Val Thorens

Stayed at L'Oxalys, Val Thorens in about 2011, (very nice then), just looking at going with a small group to "Hotel Club MMV Les Arolles - from photos it looks like it may be the same place under new mgmt and different name. Having looked on Google maps, there does appear to be a L'Oxalys Residence also, so I am a bit confused. Any info would be of interest. TIA

@Ralphs Dad, here is a thread about the 2023 incarnation of the legendary, annual End of Season Bash. Scroll down to see a snowy photo of the front entrance of the Oxalys and a description of the accommodation underneath it.

If you look up Les Arolles on Google Maps and zoom in, you will be able to see the relative locations of the two places. They are different, but quite close to each other.

Indeed, the legendary Père Bise. In another life, when it still had 3 stars, I once ate omble chevalier there. It was the most delicious thing I have eaten in my whole life.

Glad to see you are not slumming it in a 2 star MIchelin.

They reckon the Omble Chevalier will be extinct in the Lac d'Annecy within a decade due to global warming. The lake is gaining 1C per decade at the moment. Eat it while you can.

@davidof, my days of eating at such establishments are·long over. Sad about the char, though. (I had a very tasty one sitting by the shore of a lake in the Salzkammergut a few months ago - presumably the threat of extinction exists there too?)

I guess so, but maybe there is somethng about Annecy Lake that means it is warming quicker?

I did eat char the other week, but in a much more Omble establishment in Menton St Bernard.

I had to google omble chevalier, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I think the closest I've got to it on a few occasions is eating omble pie... Toofy Grin

MMV is just across the dog poo-poo run from the l'Oxalys. Has good plate glass windows that reflect the dawn peaks for those doing the bakery run.

Thanks for all replies (relevant and irrelevant) re L'Oxaly facility status as an hotel/aparthotel. Unfortunately a post link to the EoSB 23 makes it look like an apartment block. Does anyone know what it is going to be in 23/24 ski season?

From the reviews here, seems to have changed management back in 2014. Referenced as being opposite Club Med. A L'Oxalys still exists down the hill behind. A fairly polarised set of reviews...

Looking back through reviews, it seems to have been part of Club Med. Or perhaps it was Club Med, until they built a new one across the street.

@DidierCouch, Yes, it was Club Med before they moved across the road and since taken over. L’Oxalys is still under the same management that it’s always been.

@Ralphs Dad, Oxalys is apartments and as far as I am aware has always been apartments and has not changed hands - it’s still listed as a Montagnettes property. Club MMV Les Arolles is nearby but is a different business and appears to be a hotel.

There are a couple of photos on Google for the MMV Les Arolles which are of the general area rather than the hotel, including one of the lift station with a sign saying “Residence Oxalys / Restaurant Il Gusto 100m”, could that be the source of the confusion?
